There was nothing.

Nothing but a vast white void that seemed to never end.

If you were to reach your hand in front of your face, you'd almost forgive yourself if you thought it would disappear in an instant.

In the piercing white light, however, awakes a person who had been lying flat against the floor beneath them. The reflecting light being too harsh to define any features of them.

Slowly, they bring themselves to stand on both feet, knees slightly shaking by the fear of not knowing what exactly they were standing on, however, once they regain their composure, they start to wander around the void to attempt to assess their situation.

They followed wherever their feet would take them, walking in what felt like an endless corridor searching for something they knew they'd never find. Their footsteps clacking against the floor beneath them, the sound reverberating off of some invisible wall.

The search continued for a while; the constant click of shoes on the floor below slowly growing more erratic as the person owning them struggled to find a way out in the endless nightmarish realm of blinding white.

"I see, you're lost..." A voice suddenly echoes throughout the realm, it's origins unknown.

The person caught in the void turns as if to try and find it's owner, as if there was someone in that world with them.

"Ha-ha... Don't worry, you're actually fast asleep in the real world." The voice continued, reassuring it's lonesome captive guest. "I'm just here to give you what you desire, but you seem to be struggling against my wishes for you. Why is that?" It questioned as if the entity was in the room with person, interrogating them.

The lone person tried to open their mouth to speak, but found they had no voice in which to do so, causing the otherworldly being to laugh again.

"Don't worry, I know what you're trying to say. I have the ability to read your hearts desires." It chuckled softly, not a hint of malice in it's voice. "I just want you to be happy in a world you truly deserve, and I want to give that to you."

The person resigned themselves to sitting back on the floor, listening to the lecture of the faceless being, almost feeling like a lecture about the invasion of their feelings, or their wants and of the things they truly love in the world...

Of that person...

Of that fateful encounter...

The thoughts couldn't stop flowing now: Them; what could have been; the memories they could have made and the future. It all seemed so distant now, unachievable and desolate. None of this should have happened. They should be with them right now. They should be together.

Why did fate have to be so cruel?

Why did it have to take away the one ray of sunshine they had left in such a dismal world?

Why did that man have to take them away?

"I can see your pain. How you miss them dearly..." It said comfortingly towards the person. "I know that pain only too well myself, I've also lost someone I loved..." It was almost as if the voice had to convince itself that what it was doing was the right thing.

Unaffected by its words, the person remained crouched on the floor. Their legs pulled right to their stomach, being held by their arms. Silent tears fell down their cheeks for the first time since that incident happened. The wound still incredibly fresh and sore.
