No More What Ifs

The crowds had thinned out during their time on the lake, mostly consisting of the adult nightlife as all the bars and restaurants opened up to their clientele. Chatter lightly filled the streets, colleagues gossiping about the latest affair their CEO is rumoured to have, university students joking about their professor's lack of dress sense.

It was certainly a lively atmosphere, despite the quiet nature of the street the two were currently walking down, Akechi's hand firmly clasped around F/N's. The coldness of the air was beginning to set in as night approached, causing F/N to pull the sleeves of Akechi's coat down so that they were completely covering her hands,

Akechi noticed this, and nudged her lightly, removing his hand from hers in the process. F/N was slightly bewildered by the sudden loss of contact, especially considering his previous clingy behaviours. However, he removed the gloves that were currently sitting on his hands, opting to slip them onto F/N's hands instead.

"Goro, you'll freeze in this weather," she pleaded, trying her best to stop him from 'sacrificing' his gloves to her. He continued to slip them onto her hands anyways, despite her frugal protests. "Please, I don't want you to get ill because of me."

Akechi simply shook his head and took F/N's hands back into his own again, "I'll be fine. I'm more concerned about looking after you," he smiled, letting the hand holding hers playfully dance around her fingers as they softly brushed past each other. "That's all that matters to me."

F/N could only sigh in slight annoyance at his response. She appreciated the thought greatly, in fact, it was nice that someone cared about her so much, much more than she could probably ever dream about caring for herself. Akechi however, was so devoted to her; to making her happy and to tending to her every need; that it seemed to her like he was forgetting about tending to his own needs and personal care. Everything he had done over the last 24 hours was only for her, his needs were completely negated.

Almost as if he didn't care about his own life.

At first it wasn't something that caused her any concern; he just appeared to be a doting boyfriend who loved her dearly, but as time had passed, each and every action he had done towards her, became another in a long list that was slowly being curated within her mind. When she looked back however, none of those tasks were ever directed towards Akechi's health and wellbeing, it was all for her.

Yes, she was 'ill' at present, but it doesn't erase the fact that he has needs too.

The street they were currently walking down was fairly quiet, save for a few students out with groups of friends. Their chatter was silent compared to the thoughts whirling around F/N's head, the thoughts of Akechi.

The silence between the two at this point was almost deafening, so much so that F/N could feel Akechi tensing up every second that passed by without hearing her voice. His grip on her hand was no longer playfully, instead it was tight and clingy, as if he was trying to save her from her imminent death from some unknown being.

Not wanting to bear the painful silence anymore, Akechi turned back to meet F/N face to face, looking deeply into her wavering eyes. "Is something wrong F/N? You're not normally this quiet with me." His thumbs went to rub circles in the back of her hand, but was met with F/N's own hand taking his hands into her own instead.

"Why don't you care about yourself?" F/N stated bluntly, her eyes settling to look upon his own.

Akechi's eyes widened, showing more of the rusted tint his eyes have than usual. The question seemed to come from nowhere for him, and it was nothing that they had ever discussed before.

"I don't know what you mean?" he lied though his voice was laced with sincerity, something he had learnt to perfect over the years though he can't quite remember why. His hands meanwhile, tried to take back control of F/N's, but ultimately failed to do so due to the iron grip she had on him.
