Lost in Thoughts

Upon arriving at work, one of her colleagues cheerfully greeted her with "Hey F/N! How's your weekend been so far?".

Oh, how she wished she could talk about how she woke up to the news that she had a (relatively attractive) boyfriend, and that they were going out for a date after she wrapped up here. Instead, she opted for saying, "I'm fine, I guess." Heading towards the staff area to get changed into her uniform.

"So... You looking forward to your date with Akechi-san later today?" This comment made F/N stop dead in her tracks.

"How did-," F/N stuttered.

How did her colleague know about her and Akechi?

"Duh doy! You've been going on about it all week!" They exclaimed, before silently contemplating over something, until their eyes go wide and gasp pretty loudly. "Don't tell me... Have you called things off with him? Did something happen!?"

"No, no! Nothing like that! I'm still half asleep, see?" she feigned a yawn in the hopes that her colleague would back off and not cause any more of a ruckus that had already been made. "We're still meeting up after work, now if you'll excuse me." F/N turned around and headed off to prepare for her shift.

The day went by relatively quickly, as a job working with a constant flow of customers usually does. Though, there were a fair few times when a disgruntled customer would raise a scene just because their coupon wouldn't work, or F/N refused to give them her staff discount. Thankfully, the manager was always on hand to help calm these situations, otherwise F/N would probably die of humiliation.

With only 5 minutes left of her shift, the cheery tune of the door played once again as it had many times that day.

"Welcome!" F/N exclaimed from her crouched down position from where she was restocking the bento section of the store, when a shadow was suddenly cast upon her from a person standing next to her. 'Oh god... not another customer. I only have a few minutes left on the clock. Please, please, let this be quick.' she mentally prayed, before standing up to greet the person.

It was him, Akechi.

"Hey F/N, You're hard at work today." He smiled, though it was short-lived "I thought I'd drop by a bit earlier, to see how you were." His gaze shifted from looking at her, to looking at the box full of stock by her feet.

"Oh, that's kind of you Ake-, ah, Goro." F/N lightly smiled in response, though she could've sworn that she saw Akechi's face flicker to another expression when she stumbled on his name. "Though, I can't really talk now, I need to get this stock shelved before my manager catches me slacking off, ahaha..." she groaned lightly, causing Akechi to shift slightly in his shoes.

"Ah, I see." he muttered, looking down at his feet, before lifting his head again with possibly the most forced smile the world had ever seen. "I'll look around then, until you finish your shift." With that, he was gone.

'Way to go F/N, pushing your 'boyfriend' away like that. Do you want to be forever alone?' She mentally cursed, grabbing several boxes from the stock and, rather harshly, placing them on the shelves. 'He was being nice to you too, and you go and tell him to 'buzz off'!?' Another few boxes were thrown onto the shelf.

"F/N?"

'He probably hates you now, you know!? Whatever you had, it's now 'POOF' gone.' F/N was grasping at air now in the empty box, but continued, lost in her unruly train of thought.

"F/N?"

'Bye-bye to the seemingly perfe-'

"F/N!?"

"Ah!" F/N exclaimed, stumbling from her position, into the cardboard box next to her. Quickly turning her head to the source of the voice, her manager.

"F/N, your shift finished a couple of minutes ago... Is everything okay? Usually you're out of the door as soon as your shift is over." They crouched down to F/N's level. "Is it to do with him? If it is I can ask him to leave." They turned their head to Akechi, who was currently at the counter, buying something that she couldn't make out from this distance,

"No, no! He's fine- We're fine!" F/N half heartedly chuckled, standing up from here uncomfortable position from inside the box. "Anyways, If I'm done for the day, I'll be going then. Thank you for your concern." F/N bowed, picked up the crumbled empty box and headed towards the staff area. Upon entering, she tossed the box to the side by the rest of the trash, sighing profusely.

'What is wrong with me today?' Smacking her cheeks, in an attempt to snap herself out of whatever curse had been cast on her today. She quickly changed out of her uniform and shot a text to Akechi.

'Sent: 5:15pm February 4th 20XX:

Hey, I just finished. I'm heading out now.'

Like what happened earlier that morning, his reply came flying in faster than the speed of sound.

'Goro Akechi

Pulling some overtime? That's not like you.

I'll be outside by the door.'

Feeling a slither of courage overwhelm her, she shot back a witty reply in an attempt to break the ice between them.

'Sent: 5:16pm February 4th 20XX:

Oh? What happened to me being 'hard at work' earlier?"

She smirked to herself, walking outside to meet her 'boyfriend', only for a hand to be placed on her head, ruffling up her hair. She yelped slightly, caught off guard by the action, to which Akechi chuckled to himself.

"So, are you ready to go?" He smiled, extending his gloved hand to her.

"Just make sure you get me decaf."
