In contrast to the corridors the couple walked through to enter the practice, this room was much different. It was an odd-looking place really, the colours of the walls not matching that of what you would expect of a place where you let all your emotions run free. It contrasted greatly with the physical warmth of the room that surrounded the couple and much better matched the weather that was outside.
The walls were painted a pale, cold blue; overhead, illuminating the room were industrial looking light panels, each one fitted with fluorescent bulbs beneath its dusty cover. There were scarcely any pictures decorating the walls and furniture either, what little there was – was a neutral painting of greenery, with no life to the painting whatsoever. F/N could only assume the doctor also lived here if he stayed so late into the night, she could only think the room wasn't decorated more was due to lack of free time on the doctor's part. He was probably so busy with patients that all he could do was eat, work and sleep in his own home.
"Ah, here take a seat." The doctor gestured towards the small sofa that sat perpendicular to his couch. Both were positioned around a coffee table which seemed to have the most going on in the entire room; full of cartons of fruit juices, a bowl full of sweets and another full of various fruits.
F/N's eye brushed over the food, taking in how fresh everything looked. It looked more alive than the rest of the room in her opinion, not that she would openly say it to the doctor's face that his decoration tastes were subpar. She also noted how messy the doctor's hair was, it looked like he'd run a brush through it backwards instead of neatly styling it. Then again, Akechi's hair was quite shaggy, though the way it draped around his neck just suited him in her opinion, it looked like a lion's mane: fierce but soft.
Maruki noticed the girl's short-lived gaze, seemingly able to pick up on even the most subtle of body movements. "You can help yourself to any snacks if you'd like, I won't charge you," his voice trailed off into a life, trying to lighten the mood, hoping the session would run much smoother by breaking the ice.
"No thank you, we're probably going to eat after this anyway," F/N confessed, her lips pursing together in guilt for turning down the kind offer, though her stomach longed for Akechi's mother's curry once more.
Oh wait-
Was she even staying at Akechi's for dinner now? She only stayed round the previous night due to Takemi's orders.
If this psychiatrist can find out what the problem is, she might be back to living on her own tonight. No home cooked meals, just another microwavable meal after a long day with no love put into it. There would also be no Akechi to hold during her sleep either.
The warmth of his arms wrapped around her, his soft hair gently tickling her neck with every breath he took and just the sound of him breathing, affirming that he was still there next to her. It was all so comforting, it felt so safe and familiar.
Was this what it was like before?
"You seem troubled, maybe?" Maruki interjected, cutting off F/N's train of thought before it could dwell on the matter any longer. "That's what I'm here to try and help with," he smiled, leaning back in his couch, his body completely relaxing desperately trying to urge the girl to do the same. "So, tell me, what can I help you with?"
F/N fiddled with her fingers at the very abrupt question. It's hard to talk about your emotions at the best of times, but then being an amnesiac on top upped this by tenfold. The very world she remembered was much different from the one she awoke to. New people have appeared in her life who are close acquaintances or even friends, and one even as her boyfriend. How can she even comprehend all this new information, especially when her brain is telling her that none of this is right and not to trust anyone.
