22. Haunting Faith

" You're what?!" Eros's mother rose from her seat angrily.

" She's pregnant with our baby." Nate protected her by standing Infront of her. Nate was amazed by the venom in their tones. He had gotten a glimpse of her family and what he had expected wasn't what he was witnessing. The Cameron's were a vile, poisonous family. Their mere presence could drag you into insanity.

" Young man." Her father rose his eyes burning with anger. His brows furrowed at the trembling girl behind Nate.

" Nate," Nate corrected. He waved his hand dismissively, " Nate or Fate or whatever you call yourself,"

" When she graduated yesterday, I already had a plan for her." He closed the gap between them.

" She was going to go to the best medical schools in the world, I already got her position secured, I already got her a condo and I fucking didn't buy a baby crib!" His fist collided with Nate's jaw , brutally sending him stumbling back.

" Dad!," Eros screamed. He grabbed her arm and yanked her forward.

" You have disappointed me!" He released her sending her back. Ares watched the scene from the the corner of the room, a dazzling wicked glint in his eyes and his shoulders relaxed with confidence.

" I--I'm very sorry dad, I, I," Eros cried. He tore his gaze away. She was his princess. His only princess.

" You see?," Her mother spat.

" The girl you put so much in her name instead of my son!," Eros frowned. She was her daughter too.

" She's just like her mother. A prostitute. A weakling, a stupid girl who doesn't know how to close her legs to red flags like her stupid mother!," Eros walked towards her.

" Stop it!," Her father tried to stop her from saying any more words.

" It's high time you tell her, her mother was just a maid, the maid you recklessly fell for!," The older man looked away from his daughter's stare.

" Y-you're,"

" Not your mother." She added. Eros's hand instinctively covered her lips. She turned towards Ares but they had so much in common. They were literally twins born on different days.

" B-but,"Nate tried to hold her but she brushed his hands away harshly.

" The only thing you got from her is her attitude, the act to open your filthy legs easily."

" You're the reason my son turned out like this!,"

" He always compared him to you!, You were always his favorite, his fucking princess, the one he'd do anything for, the one whom got all the brains and confidence!," She spat almost on the verge of tears.

" That explains why Ares hates me so much." Eros whispered to herself.

" Dad," she trailed off, tears spilling from her eyes.

" Eros, my princess," the old man cried for the second time in his life. He remembered all the details of her. Eros looked exactly like her. The reason he stopped caring, the reason he deprived her of his fatherly affections. He didn't want the pain.

" Don't say that father, I -I've been lied to. I've been treated horribly. I've been the outcast," she sobbed.

" I didn't deserve all of this, I didn't deserve all this pain of suffering for years, I -," she was lost, at the loss of words, of feelings, she didn't know what to do.

" All these years,"

" She died of cancer, when you turned two. I didn't want you to go through the pain of knowing."

" Do you know the pain of not knowing?, Do you know the pain of being so afraid of your father?, Do you know the pain of growing up alone?, Do you know the pain of inflicting all your anger on others because you want to be recognized?, You want your presence to be felt?," She paused.

" The pain of your actions becoming the reason for so many lives being destroyed?," She began to laugh.

" This child wasn't even Nate's," she broke down. She wanted to be so clear, that she had gotten all necessary things checked at the hospital. Her instincts were right, the child was Landon's.

" I guess I'm like you , in a way, I'm letting another man raise the child of another man because, that man is none other than my best friend's father." She took a deep breath into her starving lungs.

" My husband's?,"

They all turned to the door.
