I kept throwing glances at Peter. I could tell he wouldn't be able to get me out of this one. "Well?" Harry asked again. He didn't seem mad, but I could only guess the theories in his mind.
"Well...Obviously, it's a costume..." I said slowly.
"I can see that."
"Exactly!" I pointed at him. "You...can see that..." Then an idea came to me. "Haven't you ever heard of cosplay?" I blurted out.
"What? You mean when geeks dress up as ridiculous characters?" Harry stared at me.
"Exactly! There's this guy I met at the park. He, uh, asked me if I wanted to join his, uh, club...?" I said trying to push out the uncertainty in my voice. I must have done good because Harry put back the clothes into the backpack.
"You could have told me." He sat back down. The idea of me cosplaying must have stopped any other questions he would want the answer to in front of Aunt May and Peter. I sighed quietly in relief and gave Peter a look telling him that his outfit was secured. He nodded and we finished cleaning up and Harry soon had to leave.
"You sure you can't stay longer?" Aunt May followed him to the front door.
"Wish I could, but I have to go home. My father said he needed to show me something." Harry couldn't contain the excitement in his voice.
Peter and I exchanged worried glances. "Wanna grab a coffee tomorrow?" I blurted out before he closed the door.
He turned back and smiled. "Yeah, of course." I felt my face get warm and couldn't resist the urge to smile.
"Yeah..." Harry still hadn't left. It was when Peter coughed and broke the awkwardness did he finally leave. I closed my eyes and fell on the living room couch and sighed.
"Someone's in looove...." I could hear Aunt May sing as she went to her room.
"Heaven is a place on Earth..." I let slip and Peter heard me.
"Wait till tomorrow. You gotta work." He laughed and my bliss moment ended in a snap.
"Not cool Pete!" I shouted and threw a pillow at him, which he dodged. He laughed all the way up to his room. "Watch my first article be the identity of Spiderman. Spiderman: Unmasked." I muttered.
"Don't you dare!" Peter shouted from upstairs. I stuck my tongue out knowing he wouldn't be able to see it. I sighed and was about to walk upstairs as well until a knock on the door caught my attention. I opened the door and the faces of Danny, Luke, and Ava showed shock once they saw me.
"Oh hey guys. What brings you here so late?" I said forgetting for a moment that they didn't know I was one of them.
"Uh, is Peter here?" Luke asked while looking at the inside of the house.
"Yeah he just went to sleep. I was actually gonna go to bed too..." They kept staring at me. "Why are you here?" I tried to change the subject.
"Oh uh," Ava glanced at Danny as if asking for help.
"We needed help with our history homework, but I can see now is not a good time-" Danny almost finished when Peter's voice rang through the house.
"Hey, Charlotte! Are you gonna keep dreaming about Har-" Peter stopped halfway through the stairs as he saw Luke, Danny, and Ava. "What are you guys doing here?"
"We needed help with our history homework but we can see it's very late." Danny said trying not to sound suspicious.
"I was just about to invite them in. Few questions wouldn't hurt. I'm actually good at history." I told them while smiling at Pete. I might as well have some fun taunting them...
"No it's ok." Luke was about to close the door until my foot stood in the way and with my most kindest but demanding voice I said, "No. I insist." They looked scared for a split second before Peter hit me in the head and I cried out in pain. "That's mean!"
"Sorry guys. Maybe we can do it later after school?" Peter gave them an assuring look and they nodded. Soon after, they left.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked just as he closed the door.
"What?" He shrugged and started heading upstairs.
"That's code for something. I know you guys! You have all been acting weird around me! Do they still not trust me?!" I asked all in one breath.
"Sometimes you suprise me."
"Why?"
"Because you're not as dumb as people think you are." He said and walked back to his room.
"Whoever says that has obviously not seen my grades compared to theirs. I'm a genius." I said to no one. As I was about to close my door I heard Peter laughing from the other room. "Jerk."
The next morning Aunt May cooked my favorite breakfast. "Didn't know I had a favorite, Aunt May." I said as she placed a plate in front of me. It was an omelette filled with pepperoni and cheese and chunks of teriyaki chicken.
"It is the weirdest meal I have ever cooked." She said. I laughed and ate the omelette with a smile.
"Where's Pete?" I asked after I swallowed the last bite.
"He said he was meeting up with some friends." Aunt May responded. I gasped and rushed to give her the empty plate.
"Gotta go!" I called out to Aunt May before she could ask where I was going. I quickly grabbed my bag, which had my suit and ran off.
I arrived at the helicarrier too late. The team looked at me with anger in their eyes. In the back I could see Spiderman avoiding my gaze. I gave a nervous laugh as I made my way towards him past the others. At one point, Nova tried to trip me.
"Why didn't you wake me up! I didn't know there was a mission!" I whispered to him.
"There wasn't. It was a meeting." Spiderman still wouldn't look at me.
"About?"
"You." And that's when he met my eyes. "They want you off the team unless you either reveal yourself or start talking." He said slowly.
"Start talking? About what?" Anger was slowly rising.
"About your connection with the Green Goblin and all that." He waved his hand around. "Listen, Char," Spidey went into a low whisper. "I'd just tell them who you are. It's not worth it." He took off his mask and stared at me with his deep brown eyes. I looked around and saw everyone else doing the same.
"You're right. It's not worth it."
"Good."
"That's why I'm quitting." I said loud enough for everyone in the room to hear. "I was never really part of the team." I grabbed Peter's mask and pulled it back over his head. I walked past the team again to exit. They didn't show any emotion. If they did, I wasn't looking.
I was about to leave when I remembered something. I ran towards a table filled with food and grabbed a spicy burrito. "And I'm taking this with me!" I took a second one. I officially left and once out, I wondered how long it would take Fury to find me.
Update:
Ok so I didn't realize I was at almost 150 followers until just now and I was planning on doing something special for it.Don't really know what to do maybe do a sequel to the Valentine short or something else.
If you have a suggestion, please do and I don't care how crazy it is or if it may seem impossible. I will try and if I can't then I'll at least use the effort or do something else.
Thanks to everyone who has even bothered to follow me and I'm pretty sure no one is gonna comment but y'know, never know?
I try.
Love,
