"There you are!" Peter and I said in unison as the others sat at the table.
"Why were you guys so late? Pete told me you had stay in a class during work, but you only have about 10 minutes of lunch left!" I lied. I had to play stupid. I wasn't ready for them to know. Which makes my goal even more difficult.
If I can't trust them, how do I get them to trust me?
I stared off into space. "Char?" Harry waved his hand in front of my face. I shook my head slightly and smiled at him.
"Sorry, thinking." I reached for my fork and started to eat my food.
"You can think another time. My dad is picking us up." He grabbed my hand and stood up.
"Now? Why?" I quickly picked up my bag and threw my food away.
"I don't know. He didn't say why. Sorry guys, see ya tomorrow." As we left, Peter looked at me. He nodded and I walked beside Harry out of the cafeteria.
A limo waited for us in front of the school and Harry and I got in. Norman was reading the newspaper. "What's wrong?" Harry asked. I noticed he still hadn't let go of my hand. Norman flipped the page before putting the paper down.
"We're going to a party." He simply said and we exchanged confused looks. I looked down at our hands still together and Harry quickly let go, embarrased.
"So who's throwing a party?" I broke the silence.
"Me. In honor of Spidergirl." Norman answered and I froze.
1) What was his plan?
2) Wow did that name catch on!
"Will she be making an appearance?" Harry seemed interested.
"I hope so. I sent her an invitation." I furrowed my brows. Invitation? I hadn't recieved any letters in any way. Unless, the message from today was it.
"She probably has bigger things to do instead of attending a party." I dared to say. "Y'know, with fighting bad guys and all."
"Perhaps. But that's why I invited some criminals over as well. Just to make sure. Her presence would be very much appreciated." He spoke as if he were speaking to me. Which he probably was but like he knew. I shook off the thought. No way he could know so easily.
"Enough talk about the guests, let's talk about why." I changed the subject. "Why the sudden interest in parties?" I crossed my legs, suddenly remembering manner lessons mom gave me.
"Charlotte, I've always liked parties. You just came in a time where I was most busy." He spoke as if he adopted me. Which in a way, he did. I was too young to live by myself for too long and people guessed Norman Osborne had taken me with him.
"Yeah, I guess you're right. What time is it?" I sighed. Tiredness fell over me for some reason. Norman checked his watch.
"About now." He said and went back to reading his paper. "You'll have ten minutes to change at home." I had the perfect dress in mind and for a moment, I didn't care about Spidergirl or secrets or anything else. All I could think about Harry and I dancing together. I didn't realize that I was smiling when Norman pointed it out.
"This can be a great opportunity, Charlotte." He said. And I think I know what he meant by that.
"Charlotte, my dad's waiting outside already!" Harry shouted from behind the door.
"I'm almost done. Be down in a minute!" I look into the mirror as I put on the last earring. I prayed silently that Norman was bluffing when he said he brought criminals to the party. "No. No matter how bad things get, Spidergirl will not make an appearance." I vowed and sprayed some perfume on.
I made my way down the stairs where Harry gawked at me. "Wow. You're..."
"Pretty?"
"Goregeous." He breathed out and I blushed.
"Don't exaggerate." I said walking towards the front door. He caught up with me and opened it for me.
"I'm not." He gave me a smile and we left together.
When we reached the hotel where the party was being taken place, it was already half full. The bodyguards let us in and a wide spaced ballroom filled with people was the first thing we saw.
"Wow." The decorations were breath taking and the women in their dresses made mine look like prom. "I feel so out of place here."
"On the contrary. You fit right in. Lovely dress, Charlotte." Norman complimented me and handed me a drink.
"I'm not old enough." I refused.
"Everyone else is too old, why not old enough?" He offered me again and I accepted. The taste stung my throat but was quite satisfying. The night went by fast until a slow song was put on. I was sitting alone when Harry came by, hand stretched out to me.
"May I have this dance?" He looked handsome in his tux and I was itching for a dance.
"Sure, but this isn't prom y'know." I put down my glass and we walked towards the middle of the dancefloor.
"Yeah, but I figured it would be good practice for when it does come around." We held hands and started swaying to the song.
"Harry Osborne, did you just ask me to Prom?"
"What? No way, I can do better than this." He smirked and I laughed. I rested my head on his shoulder and for the first time in months, I felt normal. The song was pretty long and I had about five to six minutes of just dancing with Harry and being able to be this close to him since we were in handcuffs.
"Harry, I want to tell you something." He looked at me with his full attention. "I-" A buzzing sound interrupted me. "I...need to go to the bathroom." He gave me a confused face and I rushed to the ladies room. My phone was vibrating in my purse. I saw the caller ID and picked it up.
"Hey, Pete. What's up." I put it on speaker and fixed my hair.
"Hi. About those criminals coming to the party? It's fake. All the psychos are in their cells. The team and I just checked." His report relieved me.
"Great. Thanks." I hung up and that's when I heard a piercing scream. I ran out of the bathroom and found everyone unconscious.
"Hey you missed one!" A low voice came from the elevator entrance. It was Juggernaut. He dashed towards me and I moved to the side. A blast of electricity came from above and I back flipped away. I landed on my knees, my dress not making movement very easy.
"Gah! Who is she?" Electro floated down.
"I don't know and I don't care. Goblin told us to take everyone." The woman from the other night came out of a shadow and threw knives at me. My spider sense helped me dodge most of them and even grab a few. I stood up and in front of me were three criminals I knew very well.
One tried to electrify me during my training with Spiderman, another tried to crush me during my time with Harry (and possibly before, I don't remember) and the last tried to assassinate me just a few days ago.
My thoughts were scrambled but one clear worry stuck out. Where was Harry?
"Charlotte," Norman come from behind them like an evil master mind would from a movie. "I told you there would be criminals."
Heyhehheh! The picture is how Charlotte's dress would look like. I'm horrible at describing clothing so yeah.
