"Dr. Kinbott's office is on the second floor" said principle Weems as she parked her car. "Other Nevermore students swear by her" "You'll be here until I'm done?" asked Wednesday "I have good company" Principal Weems said indicating towards Raven, who was seated silently in the back seat with her black chunky headphones. "What are you listening to dear?" She asked with a smile. "Children screaming" she replied nonchalantly "I envy you" Wednesday commented as she made her way up towards her therapist. "It's been long since you have been in the city dear" Ms. Weems said, catching Raven's attention. "Why don't you go and wait for me in that coffee shop? I'll be right with you as soon as I'm done with a call" Raven looked up at her and gave an almost smile, she liked the lady, she gave her a chance when no one else wanted to. She gave her a small nod and opened the car door, keeping her headphones loosely on her neck.
She entered the small coffee shop and she saw none other than her cousin Wednesday Addams sitting in one of the booths. "I was wondering how long you would have lasted with Dr. Kinbott" said Raven, gaining Wednesday attention, who for some reason wasn't surprised. "And I was wondering how long it would take you to find me" she smiled, which Raven reciprocated. She placed her backpack and headphones in Wednesday's booth and took a seat. "So how was it?" She asked "dreadful" responded Wednesday. "She wanted to talk about feeling and...other nonsense" Raven laughed. They began to make small conversation until someone interrupted.
"Here's your quad" Raven's heart stopped for a second...it's been almost 6 years... but Raven could never forget those eyes "Can I get your friend anything?" She looked at him petrified. She mustered up every ounce of courage to maintain her dignity. "No...thank you" "Hey you also go to Nevermore" he said with a somewhat cheery voice. "Tyler, this is my cousin Raven. Raven, this is my new driver Tyler" Wednesday introduced. "I'm not actually her driver, I'm just doing her a favor" he said nonchalantly. Raven was almost shaking with fear at this point as she nodded in acknowledgement. "You look very familiar" he said. "Do you come out here often?" Raven looked at him, her blue eyes were wider than the ones of a dear caught in headlights. He ask her a question... she had to say something "N-no...I...never come here actually...bad experience" she said. "Yeah...don't take it to personally alright? Some people are just assholes" he said and Raven furrowed her brows lightly, he really doesn't know? "I'll go back at the counter, if you want to order something give me a wave" he said to her as he wore a cheesy smile and began to head back.
"What was that face?" Asked Wednesday once Tyler was far enough to not hear "What face?" "That face you did with your eyebrows!" She insisted. "I have no idea what you are talking about, Wednesday" Wednesday looked convinces enough.
"Hey, boys, check it out" A voice said, coming from the front door of the café. "What's are Nevermore freaks doing out in the wild?" The same boy said "This is our booth" another one said
Wednesday looked at the up and down "Why are you dressed like religious fanatics?" She asked flatly. "We're pilgrims" The first boy insisted "Potato, po-tah-to" Raven mocked lowly "Tomato, to-mah-to" Wednesday said, joining in the mockery. "We work at Pilgrim World" One of them uttered proudly.
"It takes a special kind of stupid to devote an entire theme park to zealots responsible for mass genocide" Wednesday scoffed.
"My dad owns Pilgrim World. Who you calling stupid?" The first guys said as he clearly got more agitated by the second.
'This is why I don't come here' Raven thought
"If the buckled shoe fits." She mocked "Do you even know what the pilgrims did?" Raven asked flatly and genuinely. The guys started cornering them, but Raven refused to be scared. One thing was cornering her when she was eleven, and another was cornering her cousin. If you knew Raven Addams, you would have known that the love she bears for her family and her only friend is stronger than any fear.
"Guys, back off" Tyler came from behind the counter to try to help "Stay out of this, Galpin!" One of them shouted "Yes, stay out of this" said Raven confidently, as she stood up, Wednesday following.
"So tell me, freak..." said the guy as he inched dangerously close to Raven's face. She took an almost imperceptible deep breath, 'We are no longer eleven' she tried to convince herself 'they can't do anything to me anymore'
She could see the boy scanning her face, as if he was searching for something...or perhaps realizing. "Holy shit I know you!" He said as realization crashed onto him. He let out a loud humorous laugh "You are Raven Addams!" And with that a chorus of 'ooohs' and 'aaahs' were heard from the boys behind him. "You are the girl we tied up to a metal pole on Outreach day a couple of years ago!" Raven tried her best to remain as deadpan as possible. "You..." Tyler said softly in realization. Raven briefly turned to look at him. "You did what?" Wednesday asked, getting more aggravated by the minute. "Why don't you tell her?" The boy asked with a provocative smile. Raven really didn't want to tell Wednesday but she feared that if she didn't, things might get worse. "6 years ago...when your parents first dropped me off at Nevermore, the school had to go to something called Outreach day" The dark memories were quickly flowing back to her. "It was raining...and...thundering....." "say it or I'll say it" the boy threatened with a smile. Raven took a deeper breath "After they found out I was an electrokinetic they tied me to a pole to see if I would attract any bolts of lightning" she said quickly, slightly looking down in shame.
"What is your ability, little outcast?" He asked Wednesday who was fuming with anger "do you make things levitate? Or do you grow fur and canines during a full moon?" He asked humorously. At that point Raven couldn't stop herself and punched him square in the face....and that's how the rumble began.
The four boy couldn't stand a chance against Raven and Wednesday... they were almost out cold in under 40 seconds.
"Where did you two learn those kung fu moves?" Tyler asked in disbelief "My uncle taught me" said Wednesday "He spent five years in a Tibetan Monastery" "Was he a monk?" Tyler asked trying to make sense out of the situation. "He was a prisoner" Raven said flatly, which caused Tyler to look back at her, guilt coating his every feature. He was about to say something when the sheriff barged in. "Dad!" He exclaimed "Tyler, the hell's going on in here?" His father asked in confusion "They were harassing these customers" he said "and they put them in their place." "These little things took down three boys? Did you help her?" Raven and Wednesday both rolled their eyes "Dad, I swear, I wasn't involved" he insisted. The front door opened once again, this time revealing principle Weems.
"Apologies, Sheriff" the tall woman began "These ones slipped away from me" she said with a smile "Come on, Miss Addams and Miss Addams, time to go"
"Wait a minute, hang on. You both are Addams?" The sheriff asked "Don't tell me Gomez Addams is your father?" He asked almost angrily "yes" said Wednesday "uncle" corrected Raven. "That man belongs behind bars for murder. Guessin' the apple doesn't fall far from the tree" he said, to which both Raven and Wednesday furrowed their eyebrows in confusion. "I'm gonna keep my eye on you girls" he told them before they left.
