"Don't worry about it," Valerie replied as she stood up to fix the mess of a tree. Some of the branches had broken, almost as if it fit the couple more now that it was imperfect like them.

After setting the tree back up, the couple began to decorate their tree with their designated ornaments.  The two played cheesy Christmas music, which they both laughed at, until Corpse's phone began to ring. As he picked it up, he read the number.

"It's the hospital," he looked at Valerie. She grabbed his hand as he slide his thumb across the screen, accepting the call. Valerie watched as Corpse's smile slowly began to fade.

CORPSE'S POV

My phone rang as we were finishing up decorating our new tree. I couldn't be happier with Val, but my mom being in the hospital keeps holding me back from her. I feel like I was doing so well, but this whole hospital thing has been a major mental setback.

I picked up the phone,

"Is this Mr. ____,"  a woman's voiced asked.

"Yes that's me," my low, raspy voice answered back.

"If you can, can you head to the hospital,"

"Yeah, is everything okay?" I asked.

"We can talk about it once you arrive," is all he said, before bidding me goodbye and hanging up.

I was basically running. Valerie had driven us both to the hospital, my nerves running rampant throughout my body. Valerie struggled to follow behind me. I smacked the up button on the elevator panel, as it took us to the floor my mother was on.

Valerie took my hand, clearly she knew how badly I was worried. She looked at me, smiled, a sympathetic look. We stared at each other, until we were interrupted by the harsh ding of the elevator doors opening.

Rushing to my mothers room, there were several nurses and her doctor standing outside; almost waiting our arrival.

"Mr. [Last Name]," the doctor hesitated to speak. Even when he did, I knew this couldn't have been good.

VALERIES POV

"Mr. [Last Name]," the doctor hesitated to speak. My breath hitched in the back of my throat, and I have Corpse's hand a squeeze: I can't imagine what he's feeling right now.

I looked through the window to his mothers room, where a body laid with a white sheet draped over it, while a nurse took all the iv's out of a limp, blue arm. I knew what was about to happen; just didn't know what to do when Corpse would find out.

"Mr. [Last Name], we have some unfortunate news," the doctor hesitated again, "your mother fought stage three cancer as hard as she could, but we're guessing it wasn't enough. She passed away just 25 minutes ago."

I could tell Corpse was stunned.

"Oh, okay," was all he muttered.

"What are the next steps?" I asked for him, letting him process the information and emotions he may be feelings.

"Well we can give you her belongings from when she came into our care, and we can give you her home address so you can go through her things," the doctor said, sending one of his nurses to retrieve her things. A gurney wheeled past, and the tension only grew in the long corridor we stood in.

Parking outside of Corpse's apartment, I got out and opened the door for the striking young man. His black curls were perfectly hiding his eyes, and his face was hidden behind the large black mask he wore. We walked inside, and sat on the couch, silent.

"Corpse I-"

"Can you go home?" his harsh voice almost rang through the living room area. You could hear a pin fall.

"What?' I asked, angrily.

"I said can you go home, I want to be alone right now," his voice rose, as I flinched at the harsh noise.

"Corpse I know you're dealing with a lot right now, and I know its probably a lot to process, but you cannot talk to me like that. I'm trying to help as much as I ca-"

"You can come back tomorrow, please just go home for tonight. I love you," he said as he walked away.

"That sounds awful, I'm so sorry Val," Rae spoke, as I cried on her own bed. It had been a while since I'd been home.

"It's okay, I think I'm gonna stream though, I've been neglecting my duties," I somewhat chuckled. Some part of me wanted to be happy to be home, but I couldn't get Corpse off my mind. And so I streamed, and god, I missed this.
