Jessie hesitated before he spoke again, "we have reason to believe your mother may have aided the death of your father."
(just a reminder its Valerie's pov, also any medical information I use in this are completely made up, besides the name of a medication that can induce heart attacks)
I had no words. All of them had fallen my mouth when my jaw hit the floor.
"W-what do you mean?" I struggled to question the stranger.
"I know your father died ten years ago, but your father was a very healthy man, and we had reason to believe your mother had some sort of foul play involved with this death. Our investigation office filed to talk to a judge who granted us permission in looking into such accusations against your mother. When your fathers body was autopsied, we find unknown bruises around the veins in his upper arm. This led us to believe some sort of medication was used to kill him. After 10 years, there was still a large amount of doxazosin, a drug that if its abused, you can cause heart attacks." Jessie told me everything.
I couldn't find the words to speak, I just flopped into the seat nearest me and held my head in my hands. My father was my favorite person growing up, and it was hard for me to even think of believing that my mother could've done what Jessie was accusing her of. My mother loved my dad, didn't she?
"Why would she do all that?" Poki asked from behind me.
"The money, David had a very large sum of money in his life insurance that she still lives off of now, which technically should have been yours," Jessie turned to me, "he also left a note to you before he died, which unfortunately we don't have because it's in evidence, but if we had it you could read it. It clearly states in the letter that if something were to happen to your father, your mother played a part in it."
"Okay thank you Detective. I think Valerie can only handle so much right now, you can come back tomorrow?" Rae questions. Corpse remained quiet, but was staring at me the entire time.
"I understand, I'm sure this is a lot," Jessie spoke once more, "here's my card. Take a couple days Valerie. Once you're ready, please give me a call."
Jessie threw on his coat as Poki rushed to open the door. He left, not turning back to say goodbye.
"Holy shit," Corpse spoke for the first time in almost thirty minutes.
"Agreed," Rae whispered.
"Val are you okay?" Poki asked.
"I think I am gonna take a nap," was all I said as I walked up the stairs to my room. I could hear whispers from my friends downstairs, but I didn't care. I couldn't take anymore heartbreak right now.
CORPSE'S POV
"I think I am gonna take a nap," Valerie said, as I watched her force herself to walk up the stairs to her room.
"Dude what the actual fuck just happened?" Rae whispered.
"I have no idea, me and val didn't become friends till we were both 16 and she didn't live with her parents," Poki answered.
"She didn't?" I asked.
"No, she lived on her own, in the apartment we moved her out of," Poki said, "I'm worried she's going to spiral into her depression again."
"She won't," I answered.
"How do you know?"
"Because I won't leave here until I know she's okay,"

I had given Valerie about an hour to herself to calm down from whatever the hell had happened earlier. I felt awful for her. I knew her father meant a lot to her, and I'm sure it was disheartening to learn her mother may have been the reason her father died.
Walking up to her door, I heard no noise, which was slightly concerning. I raised my hand to knock on the door, leaving a light noise to echo between the hallway and her room.
"Val can I come in please," I begged, listening to any hint of noise.
"Yes," she practically whimpered. My poor Valerie. I walked in, and immediately noticed her puffy eyes and red nose. The box of tissues next to her bed was scattered everywhere.
"Hi," she whispered.
"Hi," I spoke back. Unsure of what else to say, I gently grabbed her, pulling her in for a hug. "How are you feeling?"
"I don't even know, I'm mostly confused, angry, sad, and more confusion,"
"That's understandable," I spoke again, trying to dance around the list of emotions she was feeling right now.
"I wish I could talk to both of them," she sighed.
"Why can't you?"
"Because one is dead, and the other is an abusive, raging bitch," she spoke harshly.
"What would you say to them right now?" I asked.
"Nothing to my mother, she doesn't even deserve to look at me," she started, "but to my dad. I'm not sure."
"Just say whatever is on your mind," I told her.
"Why did you have to go dad? I needed you, needed you to stay. I grew up alone after you died. Sure I had a friend or two, but with the way mom was, I didn't get to see them. Not even for my birthday, god knows the last time I actually celebrated my birthday. I need you dad. I never knew how much I needed you. GOD I wish you were here more than ever right now. I'm doing so well, and I wish you got to see this. I graduated, I have an actual CAREER, and I've pulled myself out of my comfort zone like you suggested multiple times, GOD, I just miss YOU!"
