When Corpse woke up, he could barely remember where he was. The lights seem to blare off the white walls, blinding his eyes the first time he opened them back up. He could remember the doctor telling him about his mother, and the pain in his arm when he did, and anything after that was a mystery.

"Oh you're awake," Valerie said to his right. Her eyes were big and puffy, like she had been crying.

"What are you doing here?" he asked, surprised yet happy she was here.

"I uhh, I didn't wanna overstep but I put myself as an emergency contact in your phone a while ago," Corpse smiled, comforted by the way Valerie always stood out and made sure he knew she cared. She rubbed his arm, as a doctor walked into the room.

"Mr. ___" he began, "we ran some tests and you are way too dehydrated. You've been here before for your fibromyalgia, and your gerd, and this is always the case. You need to be drinking more water." All Corpse did was nod; this doctor was always a dick, but he knew he was trying to help.

"Yes Dr. Bruson, I will definitely try harder," Corpse answered sarcastically, as he always did. The doctor released him from the room.

"So," Valerie spoke awkwardly, "why were you here in the first place?" Corpse hadn't thought about it since he woke up, causing him to disassociate. "Hey you gotta talk to me to feel better,"

"I know," he spoke sternly, but calmed down afterwards, "my mom has cancer." Valerie gave him a look of shock, then empathy.

"I-," she stuttered, "I'm so sorry." He took her in for a hug, rubbing her head.

"You had no idea, it's not your fault," he comforted.

The two talked, until Corpse took her to see his mom. She had woken up shortly after he passed out, and so the two went to see her before leaving the hospital. Valerie admired how Corpse talked to her, even though she knew they hard a rough past.

Corpse and his mom talked for what seemed like years, since they had just reconnected again after a long time; until he noticed Valerie asleep in her chair. He knew she must have been exhausted from worrying and decided to take her home.

"I hope you feel better soon mom," he said, as he started to shake the girl to wake her up. She sighed as she opened her eyes and stood up nonchalantly.

"Could I talk to Valerie for a minute?" His mom asked, and Valerie stared at Corpse searching for an answer. He shook his head yeah, exiting the room before telling Valerie to meet him outside. Through the blinds, he could see Valerie talking to her, and the smile on her face. He admired her for caring about everyone.

VALERIE POV

"Valerie could you come closer?" her voice was weak, and Valerie was on the verge of tears already. She moved closer, waiting for her to speak again. "You're a lovely girl, and I'm glad my son has you. You probably know our relationship hasn't always been the best, so I thank you for taking such great care of him. Please don't ever stop," she ended, before coughing numerous times.

"Of course Mrs [random last name], I care about him a lot. I'm glad you guys are on better terms and I'm sure we'll be back soon," Valerie answered, looking into her sunken eyes. She nodded, and Valerie said her goodbye before meeting Corpse in the hallway. She gave him a huge hug, then grabbed his hand as they left the hospital of which Corpse would think about for a while.

They didn't know his mom would take her last breathes only two days later...
