both rowan and wednesday get taken to the infirmary, so i go back to my dorm. "hey, dont worry about her, i would be surprised if rowan didnt have feelings for you after that night in the library" bianca says, trying to reassure me. i sigh. "why are men so confusing?" bianca laughs. "wish i knew"

*the next day*

bianca practically has to drag me to class. we end up being late, and i accidentally make eye contact with rowan. this time i dont even blush, just put my head on the desk. i must have properly zoned out, because class felt like it was over almost immediately. next is lunch, so i grab my books and meet bianca in the courtyard. i take my jacket off, and a note falls out of the pocket. i didnt even notice, it was bianca who picks it up.

"no way." she said, with a disgusted look on her face. "what?" i snatch the note off her, and read it to myself, my eyes widening. meet me at the festival tomorrow - R . i dont even know what to think. i am confused. why does he want to meet me?

i overthink it the whole day, yet i dont see him anywhere. probably for the best, i dont know what i would ask him if i did see him. i hear stone scraping above me, and the noise makes me cringe. i rush over to my window to see whats going on, when a blob falls from above me. what is going on? i look down, and see xavier laying on the floor next to wednesday, who looks unconscious. a couple of feet away from them is a giant stone gargoyle, presumably one off a roof. i look at the other gargoyles - they are all on flat surfaces, and away from the edge. they are also definitely heavy, so the wind definitely did not knock it off. i look back down and see xavier trying to carry wednesday, and rush down to help.

"what happened?" i ask, breathless. i take one of wednesdays arms around my neck, and we both carry her awkwardly to the infirmary. "the gargoyle fell. lucky i saw before she got crushed. must have been the wind" he says, calmly, but he cannot meet my eye.

once wednesday is conscious, i leave to go back to my dorm. on the way, i keep thinking about the gargoyle. how would that have fallen? i am so lost in thought that once i get back to my dorm, bianca made me jump. a stack of books on my bedside table falls off as a consequence, and thats when it hits me. i gasp, and bianca looks at me as if i am some alien. "it was rowan" i say, talking to myself. "what?" bianca says, with more questions than she previously had. surely it wasnt. "does anyone else in the school have telekinesis?" i ask, ignoring her question. "no, just you and rowan. now are you gonna tell me whats going on?" she asks, exasperated. instead of answering, i gesture to the window. the fallen gargoyle still lies in its place, next to what looks like a small patch of blood.

"rowan did that?" bianca asks, but doesnt seem surprised. "i dont know. it was going to hit wednesday, why would he try kill her he clearly has a thing for her." i reply. "yeah you are definitely NOT meeting him tomorrow" she tells me. i dont reply, as i am still planning on going, but i am obviously not going to tell her that. i get ready for bed, and lie awake for a while, both intrigued and nervous for what tomorrow will bring.
