Previously,

Imlie returns home to Singhania Mansion to meet Dadda and Malhaar. Veer and Imlie have a meaningful conversation that touches on how much Imlie has come to mean to Veer. Madhulika finds closure. Imlie learns first hand of Malhaar's headaches and is there to soothe him. Later that night, Veer and Aryan discuss Aneesh's dilemma and their plan for Saagar Kinaara.

Ab aage....

Trigger warning: This chapter is heart wrenching and is about the death of a child. If that makes you feel sick to your stomach, skip it entirely and wait for the next one.

But if you can steel yourself to read it, this will be one that will steal your heart, wring it and make you think of life anew. As this entire story should.

I debated long and hard on how I was going to handle this one. But to me as the crafter of Aryan and Imlie's journey, this chapter and the next are crucial. Tragedies like that can draw people together or break them apart. So, what do you think, it will do for Aryan and Imlie?

Forgive me, if it goes against what you'd hoped to see with Krish. The story of Krish will not end here, that, I can promise. :)

As always, there is a song at the end that I strongly urge you to listen to. This song was the inspiration for Krish's journey in this life.

Chapter 60

That very night, the insistent ringing of his cell phone woke up Aryan from deep sleep. Half-heartedly, he groped for his phone on the nightstand and picked it up.

Aneesh.

Aryan frowned and glanced bleary eyed at the clock. Four AM.

"Hey!" He rubbed the sleep from his eyes.

"Krish had a complication late last evening." Aneesh began without preamble.

Instantly awake and alert, Aryan sat up straight.

"What do you mean a complication? What's going on, Aneesh?" Aryan asked with growing uneasiness.

"He went into cardiac arrest, Aryan. His heart essentially stopped."

"Tell me.....tell me you were able to do something, Aneesh!" Aryan asked with his heart in his mouth.

"I was able to resuscitate him again. But there was an emergency meeting of the ethics committee of our hospital."

"The ethics committee?"

"Krish is a ward of the state. In cases like these, sometimes our ethics committee is called to weigh in."

"Weigh in .....I don't understand."

He heard Aneesh sigh tiredly on the other end.

"After talking to several of my staff and my superiors, the committee feels that Krish is no longer benefiting from any of his treatments. That we are in fact prolonging his suffering by continuing to resuscitate him."
