Previously,

"I. AM. Not. DEV!!!" He threw up a hand in annoyance.

"Uh-huh!!! And I. AM. NOT. MADHU. I'm IMLIE!!! Uggh!!! When will you learn!!?" Imlie cried out exasperated.

Pin drop silence ensued.

An audible gasp, followed by a sharp intake of breath from the doorway sounded far louder than it was intended.

Imlie froze.

"Dev?" She whispered, her eyelids flared wider.

Aryan rolled his eyes and glanced back at her. "Stop calling me....."

He trailed off, his brows slashing together as her expression changed from exasperation to alarmed in a space of seconds.

She squeezed her eyes shut for a moment and clamped a hand on her mouth.

"What? What is it?" Aryan asked sharply, bracing both hands on the dresser, leaning forward imperceptibly.

She opened her eyes, turned her head to glance over her shoulder and whipped her head back to face him.

He saw her visibly swallow, the flush on her face deepened, the fear in her eyes real.

"I have t-to go. T-take care, Aryan." She said in a near dejected whisper.

"WAIT!!!" He swiped the phone off the dresser, "What's going—-"

She disconnected the call.

Chapter 19

Aryan stared at the blank phone screen.

What. The F**k!!

What had just happened for her to abruptly disappear? One minute she'd looked ready to bite his head off for calling her Madhu again and the next....the panic in her eyes.

Someone had heard her. What could they have.....

Uh-huh!!! And I. AM. NOT. MADHU. I'm IMLIE!!! Uggh!!! When will you learn!!?

Aryan's grimaced as realization dawned.

He'd baited her and she'd taken it. Now she was going to have to explain it away. What was she going to say? With that expressive face and eloquent eyes, these days, he'd noticed Madhu could not lie to save her life.
