"Where are you eager to head off to?"
Your interning nurse asked as she watched you hurriedly remove your scrubs and change into a more casual attire. "Well after working 12 hours at the hospital I'm going home. Plus my husbands been discharged today from the military." While preoccupied with changing your failed to notice the head nurse standing at the door way of the down room.
"Aren't you forgetting something missy?" She asked crossing her arms while blocking your way out. "I gave Doctor Malanie the reports already, May has the prescription for Sam in room 203 and my intern will fill you in with her report, I have to go now bye!"
Hurriedly you ran to the front lot disregarding anyone who'd call for you. There were many more priorities than to bid any farewells to the people you spent more time with than your own husband.
A few night prior you received a phone call from John Price, Johnnys right hand man, noting that he had been respectively discharged and would be returning home within the next few days.
You were ecstatic, the genuine joy of seeing him in person than over the low quality Skype calls had you pondering many sleepless nights out of excitement.
Despite the many calls and letter back and forth, nothing could replace the feeling of seeing him in front of you. His arms that held you close and warm kisses and blessed the days you'd spend together.
Ever moment felt like the kiss you shared on your wedding day. The euphoria you felt whenever you thought of him. He was your life, your world and so much more.
Without a second wasted you pulled into the driveway of your shared home, not giving yourself the slight moment to actually check if you had locked your vehicle. "Rocket buddy mommy's home!" You excitedly chanted while waiting for your dog to appear. The fast paced patter of his feet ran towards you as he leaped onto his hind legs towering his large body atop yours.
"Guess what buddy? Daddy's coming home today!!!!" You almost screamed being cautious of his sensitive ears. His tail wagged along the rhythm of your excitement at the two of you danced a bit.
"Okay we have to clean!"
Despite being married for almost 8 years, you'd assume Johnny would already be used to the constant mess the shared home was, but a clean home was always such a nice surprise.
It was reminiscent of the time you returned home form a long shift at the hospital to see Johnny had cleaned the entire home, had plated dinner as well as a movie for you to unwind, all while he'd listen to you rant about the endless drama with in the hospital walls.
He was always such a good listener despite having the toughest case of ADHD. But no matter he was the best you could've ever asked for.
You had never found the joy of cleaning like Johnny did but that was what kept the two of you together. Like most people say polar opposite might attract.
Like a dog waiting for it owner you and Rocket waited patiently at the door waiting for what seemed like hours. Soon the day turned to night as you seemingly began to loose hope.
Had Price misled you? Had they possibly gone on another mission and that something had gone wrong? You promised to remain positive throughout his deployment and try to keep your mind from wondering to the inevitable, but there was always that false hope with a job like serving your country.
"Sorry buddy seemed like daddy isn't coming yet." You sighed seeing your dog whine as he nudged his head against your knee as a way of reassurance. "Come on let's get to bed it's late." Unlocking the back door you allowed Rocket to run to his little home that you and Johnny built when you first moved. "Good night buddy." Your patted his head giving him one last kiss before walking back into your home.
You took one last glance at the door seeing as it still idle. "Where are you Johnny." You sighed, turning off the lights, you trudged to your room being sure to leave Johnny's side of the bed neatly made as it had alway been that way since he left.
For the nth time that night your let out a long ragged breath as you watched the emptiness of the bed beside you. The cold covers remained still as the slight reflection of the moon casted its shadows.
You'd ultimately blame Price but there was always that lingering feeling of hope that he'd return.
"I love you."
You whispered before turning on the opposite side facing your back towards what was could've been Johnny.
The night fell silent as your breath was all that was audible. Gentle breeze of the summer wind rattled the chines you hung outside the window, a wedding gift from Simon.
The quiet creaking of the floor board became louder as foot steps trailed their way behind your sleeping figure. A heavy weight filled the emptiness of your bed as you naturally rolled back into the weight of the unknown person.
You groaned feeling arms wrap themselves around your waist. A slight sent of sweat and maple entered your tired senses as you slowly opened your eyes, adjusting them to the darkness of your room.
"Good morning love."
The radiant Scottish accent blessed your ears as your eyes shot open from hearing his voice.
"JOHNNY!" You screamed alarming him a bit. You shot up tossing your body weight onto him as you burried his hunky body. "Oh my god I missed you so much." You cried into his shoulder as he rubbed the length of your back.
His rough yet gently hands rubbed you soothingly as you cried months worth of tears drenching his shirt. "I-I can't believe you're finally back, rocket and I missed your so much." You continued.
He laughed at you, pressing a long kiss atop your head, "I missed you so much too." He held you tighter taking the moment to fully appreciate your patience with him, your willingness to love him despite his job, to hold him and to give him your love no matter how long you remained separated.
"I can finally hold you forever." He said, taking your tear stained face in his hands, wiping the tears that glazed your beautiful eyes. "I love you so much." He kissed you softly but hungrily as he hadn't felt such pleasure in so long.
"We can finally be a family again." You sobbed as your kissed him again returning the same energy.
"Why don't we start now then?" He smirked, pushing you backwards onto the bed he topped over you. "Mhm why don't we." Your smiled taking him back in for a kiss.
"Welcome home John MacTavish."
"Thank you (y/n) MacTavish."
