Chapter 8

I waited in the courtyard for Levi to show up for registration. Soon enough he did turn up and stood beside me.

Very quickly I realized he was wearing my hoodie with his uniform, despite me telling him not to.

"Really?" I asked.

"What's the issue?"

"If anyone asks its not mine. I'm not gay..?"

"Yeah, you're really sure of yourself there."

Only then did I realize I had said the last part when I meant to think it. I turned away embarrassed and waited for registration to end.

After it was done and everyone was sent to training, I slipped away from everyone. I walked out of the gate and into the forest surrounding headquarters.

I heard footsteps behind me, they were following me and catching up fast. When I felt as if they were in arms reach, I spun around.

I grabbed them by their neck and slammed them into a tree. Only then did I realize it was Levi and let go of him.

"Sorry I didn't know it was you." I muttered.

"Who'd you think it was?"

"Hange.."

"Hm, I don't blame you for reacting like that then."

I smiled then continued walking, Levi beside me.

"Where are we going?"

"You'll see."

"I want to know now."

"You followed me, you don't get to know." I replied as the sound of distant running water was heard.

Soon we came to a river with an old wooden bridge spanning across it. I began crossing the bridge.

"Is this safe?" Levi asked stepping on.

I just shrugged, then suddenly an idea came to mind. I turned around and pointed behind Levi.

"There's a bear!" I yelled.

He turned around and I took the opportunity to push him off the bridge and into the river. I knew the current wasn't strong enough to sweep him away and it wasn't too deep as I had fallen in a fair few times myself in the past.

Well I never really fell, it was Hange's fault.

Levi stood up in the water glaring at me.

"What the fuck?!"

For the next few moments the air was filled with my laughing and a string of curses from Levi as he climbed out of the river.

I met him on the riverbank and pushed him back in. One thing I didn't think about is that I was in arms reach of Levi.

He grabbed my arm and pulled me in with him. I landed on top of him.

"Levi!" I yelled.

I grabbed my mask out of the water and put it back on, it had fallen off my face when I was dragged into the river.

"You started it!" He yelled back.

I took a few steps back in the water and splashed him with water. He splashed me back, we continued going back and forth until I stopped to wipe the water out of my eyes.

Levi took the opportunity to tackle me into the water. When I came back up gasping for air Levi was already waiting for me, he pushed me back under.

When I came up the second time I had water in my mouth, the moment I resurfaced I spat water at him.
