(A/N: what do you prefer? Top or bottom ash?)

"You can't read, can you?" I asked.

I seemed to have got it right because he immediately started defending himself.

"Calm down." I said, "I know because you grew up in the underground, and I'm guessing without an education."

He nodded slowly.

"I knew it." I said turning back to the paperwork.

"Don't you dare tell anyone."

"I won't, but you'll have to learn how to read at some point."

A few hours later Erwin walked back into the room.

"Why is Ash doing your work!?" He asked.

Levi just stared at him for a few moments.

"He's illiterate." I said upon realizing he wasn't going to say anything.

"You said you wouldn't tell anyone jackass!" Levi yelled.

"He can't read or write..?" Erwin muttered.

"I don't know what you were expecting." Levi said, "You know the underground is shitty."

"Y'know what.. Ash you teach him."

"What?!" I yelled, "I'm not a teacher! How am I supposed to teach him how to read and write?!"

"Figure it out." He said before leaving.

I looked at the door for a moment then at Levi.

"I need to get changed." I said getting up and grabbing my night clothes, basically just my hoodie, a comfy t-shirt and some black bottoms.

"Pull a chair up." I said grabbing a book, some paper and a pen then sitting at my desk.

He ignored me and settled himself on my lap.

"Good enough." I muttered.

Every night after that, I'd spend 2-3 hours teaching Levi first how to read, then how to write.

I'd have him read a book out loud to me then I could correct him on anything he said wrong. It wasn't the best method to teach him, but it was all I had.

"Once upon a time there was a very b-bee..?"

"Beautiful."

"Beautiful blond girl who lived in a v.."

"Village."

"Village near the forest with her grandmother. One day her grandma gave her a very nice red riding cl.. clook."

"Cloak."

"Cloak, that is why everyone in the v.. village called her Little Red Riding Hood. One day- this is stupid." Levi said turning to me.

"No, keep going. Her grandma gets eaten."

"What?!" He yelled.

Soon enough, he was able to read. I then began helping him put the words in his head onto paper.

I put my hand over his and guided him. Once I felt he was ready, he began doing it on his own. Soon enough he even had neater hand writing than me.

"Okay write something." I said.

"Anything?"

"Mhm."

He wrote something on the paper. I looked down to see 'Ash is a bitch'.

"I am not!" I yelled.

He then wrote something else.

'You are beutifl.' with a little heart.
