You must let what happens, happen. Everything must be equal in your eyes, good and evil , beautiful and ugly, foolish and wise. " Neverending Story
Chapter 2
Faith jumped as a gravely voice sounded behind her.
" Get your things and get movin'. Put them in the hatch of the last vehicle and get in. If we have to wait on you two ain't no one going to be happy."
Luch jumped up and pulled Faith with him while they stared at the large man standing next to them. Shifters were by design much larger than the Fae but this man was huge. He towered over both of the siblings, well over six feet tall. He looked as immovable as a mountain with his wide shoulders and barrel chest. His intimidating appearance was just accentuated by his pitch black hair and icy light blue eyes that showed nothing but irritation that the two had not begun moving.
"I said get moving sweethearts and I sure as hell didn't mean next week." he barked.
With that both Faith and Luch jumped into action collecting their bags and heading to the SUV they were told to go to.
"Wow Luch," Faith whispered "that man is really scary. You don't think they will all be like that do you?"
"I don't know Faith. Maybe he's just not a morning person and he'll get in a better mood later. We can't judge them yet. Let's get to know them and give them all a chance. "
" Your right, we will just pretend they are all family and treat them as such, unless they show us different. "
" Right Faith, he can be our scary bipolar cousin" Faith and Luch looked at each other and started to giggle quietly.
" How come your not in the fucking vehicles yet" Scary guy growled causing them both to jump and continue to giggle nervously as they got into the indicated car.
Twenty hours later no one was laughing. The long grueling car ride drug on in silence after the siblings had given up trying to have a conversation with either of their car mates. Each attempt had been met with a grunt or glares convincing Faith and Luch that quite was the best way to stay out of trouble. Faith shivered in the chilled air as she cuddled closer to Luch trying to share body heat. The farther north they had traveled the lower the temperature had dropped. The driver and passenger in the front did not seem bothered by the colder weather and were driving with the windows down causing the two in back to freeze in silence just hoping they made it to their destination soon.
As midday approached they broke through the edge of the forest they were traveling through to see a series of buildings that sprawled across the clearing. They were not like a traditional pack house. Instead they looked almost like a group of small dormitories. Each matching the other. Very utilitarian. In fact, the entire area looked sparse and neat. As if even in nature everything had a place.
To Luch and Faith everything seemed cold and empty. The dusting of snow that covered the clearing was pristine with nary a footprint marring the surface. Cleared pathways connected the buildings in a precise maze. Were there no children here to run and play in the snow? Faith wondered looking at the perfect blinding surface. Where was the laughter? Or even just a pack member walking from one building to the next.
They pulled up to a smaller building and the driver turned and looked at the siblings huddled in the back. The passenger got out and went around to the back of the vehicle.
"Girl get out" was the man's short statement.
Nothing else. No other instructions. Just get out. Faith got out of the car to find her bags setting on the steps in front of her. As she turned around to ask where she should go the SUV sped away towards the grouping of buildings in the distance.
"Well" Faith thought, "Such friendly people, really. I guess I go in."
Not knowing what was expected of her Faith grabbed her luggage and dragged it into the house.
