" It's not that I believe everything happens for a reason. It's just that, I think that some things are meant to be broken. Imperfect. Chaotic. There have to be a few holes in the road. It's how life is."
Chapter 4
"Shut up Raff, we can do what we want."
"Yeah, you can't tell us what to do your not the team leader."
"We're not suppose to be here, you know we're going to get in trouble."
Faith woke to very loud whispering next to her head. As she blinked open her eyes she saw three young children looking down at her. Not one of the boys could of been much over ten years old. They hung over her laying on the bed, looking nervous and guilty. As Faith pulled herself into a sitting position one of the smaller boys came closer to her.
"Sorry, we didn't mean to wake you up." The boy looked up at Faith with beautiful blue eyes that reminded her of the sky on a clear summer day. "We just wondered what you were doing here. People never visit us."
Faith cleared her throat as she tried to pull her sleep fogged thoughts together.
"Uhmm. I'm not really a visitor. I've been brought here to help take care of all of you and to cook and clean. What's your name hon?"
"My names Jamie" the boy said with a little lisp and a bright smile that made his eyes sparkle and two little dimples appear in his cheeks
"This is Rafael" he pointed to the older boy who had dark hair and eyes and a serious mean about him. Jamie then pointed to a boy about his size and age "That one is Alex were both five. Everyone else went downstairs."
Faith reached out and gently ruffled Jamie's hair as she smiled down at him. "It is a pleasure to meet ya'll."
The other young boy, Alex was not as outgoing as Jamie and hesitantly stepped towards the bed. His eyes were full of questions as he stared at Faith. She turned towards the other boy and spoke softly as not to startle him.
"Is there something you wanted to ask me Alex?".
He just continued to stare at her in almost confusion. Rafael snorted in laughter from the corner .
"Alex, don't much like taking to people, ma'am. But what he's confused about is that none of us have ever seen anyone with blue hair before, and we all kind of wondered if it was real."
Faith looked towards Alex and he nodded shyly at her. "Yes my hair is my real color."
The older boy looked at her strangely "Why? You smell like a shifter, sorta. Why are you different?"
Faith tried to think of an answer that would not cause these boys to ignore her. An answer that was still the truth but maybe only part of it. She rose from her bed and went over to her bag in the corner.
"Well boys, I am shifter but I guess you could say I am also something more."
She kept her head down as she dug through her things looking for clothes to wear. She would probably at some point be cleaning so she wanted something she didn't care about getting dirty. She was startled from her task when a small but commanding voice spoke near her.
"But what more? How are you different?" Alex said.
The other boys looked in shock that Alex had spoken to her. Faith raised her head so she was looking into his dark eyes that looked too intelligent for someone so young.
"Is this truly important to you? Is it necessary for you to know what is different about me?" Faith questioned the quite boy.
"Yes" he stated simply.
Alex did not waste any words with explaining why it was important to him. He just let her know that it was. Alex and Faith continued to stare at each other. Both trying to see into what the other was thinking. Finally Faith turned back to her bag grabbed her clothes and stood.
"Since it is important to you Alex I will tell you about myself. But not right now." he started to protest but Faith raised her hand to stop him "After breakfast sweetheart." With that Faith hurried to the bathroom to get ready for her day.
