"It is not by muscle, speed, or physical dexterity that great things are achieved, but by reflection, force of character, and judgement." Marcus Tullius Cicero
Chapter 18
Dmitri's team was silent during the trip back to the crèche compound. His own thoughts were troubled as he went over in his mind all the had learned.
If everything Valerius had spoken of was true then his life was a lie. Everything he believed, everything he fought for was just a front for a group of greedy men who wanted power.
Dmitri could not fathom how he could fight next to someone and not know their true heart. Could there truly be betrayers among them? Males who did not follow the code of the warrior and instead fought for their own needs.
All of this would be a devastating blow to the Warriors who were true to the ethos. As the thought of the ethos passed through his mind Dmitri slammed on the brakes in shock.
His team mates yelled out in surprise as Dmitri thought of his training with the young in horror. This sickness had already spread to his house. They had stopped teaching the young their history, their purpose. They were training the young to be nothing more than the council's fighting arm.If he hadn't told the stories of their existence, the young trainees would have known no purpose except for that of the council. Growling out in anger at this treachery he turned to his most trusted brothers.
"Our crèche is involved." Dmitri told them. The subvocal growl in his words alerting the others to his beast emerging. "They are already infecting our young with their nefarious purpose."
"How do you know this Dmitri? Why have we not seen it?" Asked Brandr from the passenger seat.
"They have stopped teaching our trainees the history. When I did training they didn't even know what an ethos was. This disease has been right under our noses this whole time and we were all too blinded by faith in our brothers to see it."
Slamming his fists into the steering wheel Dmitri put the SUV back and drive and continued home. They had a house to clean out and he had a mate and young to cuddle. A week gone from them was too long and he did not like the thought of them being under the protection of Warrior's he no longer trusted. At least the house and barracks were empty except for the trainees.

Faith threw in another load of wash and then hurried back to the kitchen to check on dinner. It had now been a week since Dmitri's departure and Faith missed him terribly.
The first few days had not been bad. The young had kept her busy and their laughter would always put a smile on her face. Jaden was now getting into everything he could reach keeping her and the older pups running after him to keep him out of trouble.
But even with her days being full she had still missed her mate. His small, hesitant smiles. The little growls he used to try and intimidate the pups but instead came off as affectionate and playful. The way he would hold her and smell her hair. And now more than anything she missed his over protectiveness.
Two days ago, as they had been eating dinner Team Leader Zypher had arrived and had begun to prepare for more arrivals. Over the last two days many of teams that had been on assignment since Faith had moved in were now in residence.
At first it was not bad. She was busy preparing everything but all had seemed the same. But yesterday after the arrival of Team Leader Ebon and his group there was much yelling and the young were sent to their room and told not to come out.
Today Faith had only been able to see the young when she had taken them their meals and checked in with them when she could spare a moment, but the males were keeping her busy. The piles of laundry from each Team Leader were almost done though, and dinner was bubbling away in huge pits on the stove. Faith had hope that once she served the males their dinner she could sneak off to spend time with the pups.
