Shadow was at peace, knowing that with black doom gone, this world could truly be at safe.

And his peace was interrupted when Sonic appeared nearby with his casual grin.
Shadow: (Sigh) I had a feeling you'd be here.

Sonic: Really? The edge in your voice says otherwise.
Shadow looked away. Sonic leaned closer, leaning on Shadows shoulder.
Sonic: Cmon, you can tell your old pal Sonic!
Shadow looked angered, but relented.
Shadow: I thought...that once I brought peace to this world, I'd feel...whole. I thought that because I could fulfil Maria's Promise, I'd be at peace. But I still feel...
Sonic: Unfulfilled?
Shadow looked back at Sonic with mild surprise.
Sonic: Yeah, I felt the same way after my first fight with Eggman. I wanted a thrill and I got it...but I still wanted more.
Shadow: How did you get through it?
Sonic: Simple. I found joy in the small things in life. Such as...
He dashed in front of Shadow, ready to run.
Sonic: You wanna race me down to the city? First one their has to buy the winner lunch!
Shadow: I appreciate it Sonic, but...I'm not in the mood."
Sonic: That's understandable. Besides, not like you could beat me anyhow!
Shadow looked at Sonic with a scowl, before giving a grin. He turned on his heel and dashed off.
Sonic: Hey! That's cheating!
With a smirk, Sonic took off after the ultimate life-form, two frenemies side by side...

And now years later, Shadow stood with a younger but familiar face at a very unfamiliar landscape.
Green hill had lost most of its former glow, the lands overflowing with Sand as some badniks were walking around the area.
Shadow: Grr...the doctor will pay for what he's done here.
Classic Sonic grinned, doing a muscle pose before taking off without a care in the world, beginning to plow through the badniks.
Shadow: Sonic, wait!
Shadow looked panicked as he ran after Classic Sonic, a trail of Robot parts leading to where Classic Sonic was going.
