Sonic and Shadow reappeared in a dark metallic hall, void of light except the skylight above them. Sonic furiously shoved himself away from Shadow.
Sonic: Hey, what's the big deal Shadow!?
Shadow: Sonic, your acting like everything is normal when it's not, I'm helping you realise the truth.
Sonic: What are you-!? W-wait a minute, is this...an Eggman base?
They looked around, seeing cold metal and broken down conveyer belts. Egg Pawns and other Badniks lied on them, either inoperative or half built.
Sonic: Woah, talk about a ghost town.
Shadow: Eggman's bases have been more or less disabled, this is the last one left.
Sonic: The last...one?
Shadow: The doctor has been in custody for almost 4 years. It's over Sonic...there's no one left to fight...
The realisation came like being hit by a Boulder made of ice. Sonic's hyper-speeding legs turned to jelly as he stumbled back.
Sonic: It's...it over?
Shadow nodded.
Shadow: I'm sorry Sonic, I know this must come as a shock...
Sonic: Yeah...I need to sit down.
Sonic stumbled and fell back into one of Eggman's old chairs-
Only for the chair to glow red the moment he sat down, with alerts flashing all over the building. Even Shadow looked shocked as Sonic sprung onto his feet.
Recorded Eggman: Intruder detected! All Badniks, destroy these meddlesome pests!
With a pre-recorded message of Eggman playing over the speakers nearby, the room was illuminated in a red glow as all Badniks on the conveyer belts rose like zombies in. A horror movie. Even if they were missing a limb, weapons or even their heads, they rose to fight.
Shadow: Nice going Sonic...
Sonic: Hey, you didn't know either!
They stood back to back ready to fight as the bots closed in.
Sonic: If this really is the last time I'll get to bust some egg heads, let's make it memorable!
Shadow: For once, I couldn't agree more...
Shadow equipped a chaos spear into his hand as Sonic raised his fists.
Sonic: Bring it.
Robots came flying in from every single angle, swarming the hedgehog's with a Barrage of laser fire. Sonic span in circles dealing homing attacks as Shadow layered out a row of spears.
Sonic threw Eggpawns into one another as Shadow knocked over multiple fuel tanks, igniting it and setting over 100 on fire.
Then the walls began to clang and open up, causing a rusted variant of the Egg Emperor to emerge piloted by a laughing Egg-Robo.
