Alex was standing in line at what had to be the slowest coffee shop in all the Dongs in all of Seoul. This was the reason she had almost been late for the first two weeks of her English lessons at the girl's school. She had to take a bus there and had missed the first bus every day. Thankfully the Seoul transportation system was much more reliable. She was finally to the counter and ordered her Iced Americano with two shots of sweet milk. In America she would have been driving and gone round the drive up. This place didn't even have a drive up. She sighed. Some days she missed speeding fast down open country roads.
When the attendant finally handed her the coffee, she noticed there was no milk in it. 'Oh well,' She thought. 'that's why there is milk at the school.' She bowed slightly and replied, "Thank you." in English. As she was making her way back out of the crowded shop, a very excited woman said to her, "You're American!"
"Yes." Alex answered.
"Me too." The woman fidgeted a moment. "I haven't met anyone here yet, American I mean."
"Oh well have you been here long?" Alex asked.
"No. Only a month or so, I'm working now but I am going to be attending university next year."
"Oh, that's good. Look, I'm in a bit of a rush, but we could meet here after my classes if you want."
"I don't come back this way exactly, but I can a little after, like 5?"
"Ok sure, sounds good." Alex said as she was opening the door. Out on the sidewalk, she glanced at her phone to catch the time, her feet already propelling her towards the bus stop. Once on the bus and seated, she realized that she hadn't caught the woman's name. She opened up her phone and intended to play a game on the old, cracked screen until her stop came up.
She remembered vividly when she had cracked that screen. It was a few years ago in New York. She had never been before but had been invited to go with an ARMY member named Shelia. BTS was in the big apple for a United Nations event and Shelia was trying to catch a glimpse of them as they went in and out of the Hilton where they were staying. They didn't ever see them at the hotel, but they did see them twice at the actual UN, going in and then coming back out. She had her phone in her back pocket and when she sat down hard on the sidewalk, the screen suffered for it.
That was the first time she had seen Kim Namjoon in the flesh. The guys were almost close enough to touch and there were only a few ARMY standing there, so she knew Joon had seen her. Not only that, but a Korean press photographer had captured the moment the members had been looking their direction. She swore Joon was looking at her, just as she swore that Min Yoongi was looking at her friend Tara. The moment she thought of Tara, her phone vibrated.
(T) OMG YOU ARE NEVER GOING TO BELIEVE WHO I SAT NEXT TO ON THE TRAIN!!!!!!!
(A) Felix?
(T) You are such a tease! No! YOONGI!!!
(A) OMFG NO!!!
(T) You and I are eating dinner with the guys at Cheybol TONIGHT! 7pm.
(A) Ok, did you hit your head?
(T) I'm serious! He was on his way to pick up Min Holly from his brother and I almost sat on him. Well, I got shoved into him and he caught me. So embarrassing! Anyway, he invited us to BBQ and there was no way I was going to see Namjoon before you. Apparently, it's just the one meeting before seeing family for the holidays, or that's the impression I got.
(A) I'm DEAD. And at my stop. I will walk down and take my lunch in the student area. TTYL.
(T)K
Alex didn't remember getting off the bus, walking into the school or getting the milk for her coffee. She wanted to squeal at the top of her lungs, but this wasn't a K-Drama. It wasn't acceptable for an adult to be screeching. She was still in a scenario trance when the students began filing into the room. Mentally she was working out everything she would say and his reaction to each. When the bell rang and startled her, she decided that things were working out exactly how it was meant to and as long as she was true to herself, she really couldn't screw things up too badly.
