I got down the steps and waited outside and just looked around in the meantime. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a raccoon digging through a trash can. That wasn't abnormal to me I've seen it before but what was abnormal was the BLACK BEAR THAT CAME OUT OF NOWHERE TO GET INTO THE TRASH CAN NEXT TO THE RACCOON!!!!

I slowly backed away and got a safe distance as the bear moved the trash can. As the bear ripped into the trash can I couldn't help but imagine myself as the trash can getting ripped into.

The bear completed its task before noticing me. This is where I die.

Instead of charging like I thought it would it's eyes became wide and it's jaw dropped almost as if it recognized me. Before anything else could happen I heard a honking of a horn behind which scared off the bear.

I turned around to find the source of the noise. It was the school bus. I practically ran to the bus, scared that there would have been a bear chasing me.

I got on the bus still questioning what happened today and a gut feeling was telling me this is not going to be a fun day. Just as I was contemplating, a kid named Thomas (who has always hated me) made eye contact with me whilst having a paper ball wound up in his hand. " Hey, Birdbrain!" He yelled as he then proceeded to launch it at me.

While the paper ball flew towards my head a hawk I couldn't recognize flew in from one of the open windows, grabbed the paper ball, and flew out the other side. What the...? I thought. God must really like me today.

Too bad that Hawk couldn't save me from the other 20 paper balls were thrown at me.

As I walked toward the back of the bus I noticed my only friend. " Hey, Mike," I say in a defeated tone.

Mike was a small stocky kid who always had some sort of a limp. He had black, fuzzy hair and tan skin.

After doing the typical introductions I look out the window still trying to figure out why a hawk wanted to help me. But that just sent me down a rabbit hole of me thinking that I'm so pathetic a hawk has to help me. And the- "How ya doing, Y/n." He said while waving his hand in front of me trying to gain my attention.
"Just thinking," I stated
"Well, we're here you kinda got to get up."
"Oh sorry."

I got up and Mike followed me out onto the cold pavement as we moved our way into our first period. We got into English which I hate more than Tom but I have to go through this pain.

We had to read a chapter in yet another novel which is amazing for me because Dyslexia exists. Luckily Mike read it out quietly between us so I could understand it.

Luckily today, English went by relatively fast with no "Hawk Jesus" appearing which I was a little disappointed about but I guess it's difficult to fly into a building like this.

We start to exit English and file into the hallway while I suck at English I love history, especially Greek mythology which happens to be what we're covering this week. I followed Mike through the halls as he led me to the next class.

I sat down in the front of the class while Mike proceeded to sit in the back. I've always hated assigned seats but I guess that is par for the course in a classroom. Our substitute entered which kind of annoyed me as I always liked how our other teacher taught.

I looked back at Mike and I could tell he got a bad vibe from this woman just by looking at how his leg was bouncing up and down on the balls of his feet.

"Hello, everyone." She said in a somewhat calming voice while looking directly at me. She broke her gaze from me and then started to address the class. I looked at the women standing in front of me and took in all of the details.

She had a pretty face I'll give you that but there was something off about her. I couldn't quite place it. She had on jeans and a jacket. (no red flags yet) The weirdest thing was that when her left leg took a step it was loud. Like way too loud for my liking and then when she moved it. It sounded like metal scraping on metal.

"Y/n are you still with ussss." She said drawing out the s for some reason
"Yes, I am, ma'am."
Before she could say anything else to me the bell rang getting me straight out of that class.

As I was walking out of class the substitute called my name.

"Y/n can you please talk to me... alone?" She said the last part like it was directed at Mike but she said it as a demand more than a question.

I look over at Mike, "I'll be fine."
Mike looked like he was about to pass out, sweating way too much. It wasn't even that hot in here.

"I'll be waiting outside." He said while limping outside of the room

"Can I ask you why I'm here?" I say before she grabs my shoulder.

"I have been waiting a long time for thisss." Her voice sounded a lot more... animal-like?
I slowly started taking her hand off my shoulder. Her nails left a cut on my shoulder. I looked at her nails and... were those claws. How could I have not seen that earlier?
"How so?" I ask slowly backing towards the door.
" You don't know yet do you?" She asked smiling at me.
I looked at her teeth before considering her question. Were those fangs?
"I have no idea what you're talking about."
"Makessss it even better."
Ok, that had me running for the door. I got the door halfway open before her claws grab my legs. I yell to get Mike's attention as I hope he is just waiting outside.
Before he comes in I hear him say, " I gotta go."

He comes in running at speeds I didn't know possible for someone with a " walking issue". He hits the lady with a crutch which makes her recoil before he gets me up. The lady is now trying to run after us but we got up first and we are now in the hallway.
