Percy wore a puzzled look on his face as he stared out into the ocean. He didn't respond to Annabeth's question but instead started walking into the sea.
"Percy?" I asked, slightly walking after him. "What are you doing?"
He just kept walking, now waist-deep. "Checking something."
"You know how polluted that water is?" Annabeth said. "There're all kinds of toxins in there."
I guess the words didn't affect him as his head dipped below the surface. The ocean returned to a calm state, If I didn't watch Percy walk in there, I wouldn't have thought anything about it.
Annabeth mumbled something about Percy being an idiot but I didn't hear it, because I looked up from the water and saw the sight before me.
"Wow," I said amazed at the colors the sunset brought. I know, I keep getting astonished by it but I'm a sucker for them. The orange light was streaking along the sky with blue just overhead. The typical yellow the sun gave off was taking a back seat to the others. It was unlike the sunset at the hotel because the colors seemed to work in perfect harmony. It was ironic how the, quite possibly, last day of the world was the most beautiful.
I eventually just started drifting off into my thoughts. The biggest one was the prophecy.
The bird shall descend to darkness,
With new powers, he must harnessWhat darkness am I going to enter? What powers would I harness? I've asked myself these questions hundreds of times ever since I heard the prophecy. It was pointless. My mind ran around in circles, flipping tables, looking under cushions trying to find the answer but I couldn't. Ok, maybe the other lines will tell me something.
The painful journey he must take will be ended by one mistake.
That one is just a nice way of saying, "You're gonna go on this journey and kill yourself." Also, what's the point of having new powers to harness if I'm just gonna die? The next lines.
At the pyre, the shroud is burned the same boy will never return.
What does it mean, "the same boy?" What am I gonna be different? Well, I should--
"Y/N," Grover's eyes were glued to my feet. "H--how are you doing that?"
I followed his gaze. I stood about a foot from the shore, pacing. Everything seemed to be normal. The water rippled below me, creating greenish-blue circles around my legs, obscuring the image of strange red, black, and green structures. Weird, I wonder what those are? Then I took a step. The water supported my weight. The ripples weren't forming around my legs, they were forming underneath them. The structures below were coral and sea rocks. I was walking on water.
My eyes widened to the size of dinner plates. "I--I'm Jesus?"
Grover's laugh emanated nervousness. "This is baaaad."
"What?"
"Y/N," Annabeth cut in, "this is extremely bad..."
My foot started bouncing against the water. "What are you guys talking about?"
She opened her mouth but was stopped by Percy walking straight out of the water completely dry. He was holding something in his right hand but I couldn't tell what it was, but as he came closer they looked like...balls, orbs?
He eventually got to us and told us something about...an underwater girl? I wasn't really paying attention. I was too busy thinking I might get crucified by Romans.
I tried to summarize everything ."So, a mermaid-"
"Nereid." Annabeth corrected.
"Yeah, just comes up to you gives you pearls, and then swims away?"
