Now I felt like the one staring. I hated Xavier for just pulling away. He had me hooked for seconds, then just dropped me like some quick make-out session. Sure, I shouldn't have kissed him in the first place, but they way his eyes looked down at me had me weak.

Still, his taste stayed in my mouth. Something like coffee and berries. It had washed out, and become so unknown. It had only been five days. Only, it felt like a hundred.

Many times I caught myself staring. Miss Thornhill had swapped my seat with Enid's, and now I sat behind him. I could only imagine how stupid I looked while looking at him and his stupid long hair.

Ajax and Xavier were usually gone. I'd rarely see them during lunch or after school. Not that I've been looking for them. I'd spend most of my afternoons in the greenhouse doing homework. After some time, it became like my safe haven.

Yet, today was some poe cup. Enid didn't shut up about it.

"I need your help!"

I looked up from my book, meeting an urgent Enid's eyes.

"What's wrong?" I asked, closing the book and getting off my bed. "Are you okay? Is Wednesday okay? Is your canoe okay?"

"Everything's fine, but Bianca has some siren friend helping her in the cup!"

I frowned. "I don't follow..."

She groaned, grabbing my wrist. "I need you to use tour weird plant power to trap a siren and maybe block some boats."

"Enid! That's chea-"

"There's no rules," she argued. "Please!"

I sighed. She pulled me out of the room, and I knew I had no choice anymore. She was already in her cat suite, and in a hurry. I had no choice but to help her.

"Tell me..."

I spun around, suddenly seeing some sort of joker behind me. Then I realized that it was Xavier.

"Why exactly are you here?"

I scoffed lightly. "I'm not allowed to watch the Poe Cup? It's a school thing, so I think-"

"We both know you weren't planning on showing up," he said, making me sigh. "And I know as much as you love your brother, you wouldn't be here if someone didn't force you to come. What does Enid want you to do?"

I giggled. "Nothing. I'm here to watch, smoker."

He scoffed, taking a step closer. As much as I lightly felt my stomach fill with more than butterflies, I didn't take a step back, only tilted my head up.

"So you're just here to support? I find that hard to believe," he teased with some silly smirk.

"Why so curious?" I asked. "So halcyon."

He chuckled. "Halcyon?"

"Calm," I teased, tilting my head a bit. "Why? Need a goodluck kiss?"

He laughed, before looking up, over my head. "I wouldn't argue," he grinned before looking down at my eyes. "You seem willing to give one," he teased.
