TODAY IS THE DAY, THE FUNERAL.

People gather around the grave with long frowns and red eyes. God, it was depressing. Steve lingers nearby, next to Jonathan and Nancy. Either of them didn’t say a word. He scans over the crowd and lands on the kids. They hug each other, trying to comfort each other. But a few tears slipped out of their eyes as the priest said his last prayer and the casket sank into the hole.

He hears a few people let out a cry as the guest threw their remaining flowers down the opening.

One by one, people started to go towards their cars, not before they gave their pitiful thoughts and prayers to the family.

Steve didn’t want to stay any longer and started to leave. He felt suffocated. He just wants to go home and rest. In the midst of walking away, he hears Nancy call out to him.

“Steve!” He turned his head towards the girl. The three haven’t spoken since 4th of July. It’s been a month since then.

“Drive safe” she said, Steve nodded and continued walking away.

Thankfully, he parked relatively close to the funeral and started his car. He took one last look at the tombstone before driving away.
