"Hey, Buddy! I need your help for a minute."
Y/n wipes the grease that covers their hands on their already stained graphic t-shirt. At this point they know better than to wear anything they actually care about to the lab. Peeking out from under the currently useless slab of parts in front of them, they lean forward and make eye contact with Buddy.
"What can I help you with, y/n?"
"Can you hand me that energy reactor, the extra repulsor, and the wrench sitting on the lab bench over there please."
Buddy gives you an incredulous look before responding. "How could I do that when I don't have any hands?"
Why did I program this AI to have sarcasm?
"You know what I mean! Now please, my hand is cramping holding this thing together." Buddy does a dramatic spin as he hovers himself in the direction of all of the supplies you had listed off. The AI collects all the materials and places them to your side before zooming off somewhere else in the room.
Continuing where you left off, you grab the new materials and start tinkering away on the project in front of you. After about 20 more minutes you stand up and wipe the grime from your clothes. Placing your new toy in front of you on the ground, you lightly press down on it before it lights up. The board hovers a foot off of the ground and emits a blue light underneath it. You smile at it and immediately step on it. It takes a few seconds for you to gather your balance but after a minute you are signaling for the board to lift higher. Before you know it you are zipping around in your lab, weaving around workbenches and gaining height as you test out your newest toy.
"Y/n, I suggest putting on a helmet if you wish to continue your testing." Buddy hovers back into the room. You wave off your AI as it flies next to you as you continue surfing in the air on the board.
"Blah blah blah. You're no fun. Loosen up, Buddy!"
"I am not programmed to be 'loose', y/n." You roll your eyes and lower yourself to the ground, earning a small 'thank you' from your concerned robot friend.
"Happy now?" You step off of the board but keep it powered on, letting it hover about a foot off of the ground.
"Very. Thank you." Buddy does a quick scan of the board before pointing his attention back to you. "Y/n. Initial scans show this board is no different than any other hover board that currently exists. In fact, Tony Stark has a very similar version of this board he built for fun just the other day. Why did you spend your afternoon building this by hand rather than having one of the other AI's build it for you with the already established blueprints?"
You smirk and give your hands a clap, "I am glad you asked! Yes, Tony made a similar version of this board a few days ago because he was bored, but mine is better." Buddy rolls his eyes, well does his best to roll his eyes since his eyes are simply digitally created on a screen. "Tony's board is not only more than two times as large and clunky, but it also uses triple the materials. Plus, it can't do this."
Before Buddy can question you, your foot taps a button on the side of the board. Within seconds it starts to fold in on itself and shrink. Once it's as small as a quarter it flies into your hand, allowing you to place it into your pocket with a smug look. You open your mouth to talk about the gadget that now sits in your pocket but you are quickly cut off by the sound of dramatic slow clapping coming from behind you.
"Well aren't you a show off."
You spin around to find Tony who pushes himself off of the doorframe he finds himself leaning on. He makes his way into your lab, poking at a few items found scattered across various surfaces on his way by.
