Freaks First Day

The silent room was disrupted by the sound of a blaring alarm for the third time. Wen reached for her phone on her bedside glancing at the time with tired eyes.

6:25 AM, it read. She let out a low huff as she placed her phone down and threw her blanket off allowing the cold air to sweep across her body.  Her body shivers as she heads to the bathroom to prepare for school.

With her uniform on and bag prepped, Wen heads to the dining hall for breakfast. Seeing the large student body gathered around tables and lined up for food caused her to become nervous. She hadn't been around so many people for such a long time the crowed overwhelmed her.

Shuffling her way toward the food line with muffled pants, she pulled out her phone. Checking the time and counting the seconds to calm herself down.

"Hey, the line is moving." A voice from behind her calls out.

Wendi turned her head in slight panic then looking ahead and moving forward a few feet. "Thank you, got a little distracted." She said as she turned once more.

A girl with bright blue eyes and dark skin looked back at her with piercing eyes. She was stunning in Wen's eyes.

"All good." She replied with a smile that didn't quiet reach her lips before glancing to her right and talking to a girl beside her once again.

After a few more minutes and a few more steps forward When hers the voice from behind her again. "I'm Bianca and this is Astrid by the way, I assume you're new."

"Oh, yeah. My names Wen-Wendi." She stutters, "nice to meet you." She finishes with a small smile.

"If you don't have anyone to sit with, you can join us at ours." Astrid speaks up.

"Thank you, I'd love that."

After chatting a bit more in line, the girls get their food and head toward the table where the rest of Bianca's friends were. While Wen stayed quiet for the most part, she enjoyed the inclusion they gave her.

Listening to the girls talk about how the year will go a chill ran down Wen's spin, over taking her with a coldness that she couldn't ignore. Getting up she moved to the counter grabbing a hot cup of coffee before returning to her spot.

"Oh your cold?" one of the girls says as Wen clutches her hot cup close to her body.

"Just a little." She replies minimizing how she truly feels.

"Are you not a siren?" Bianca says speaking up as if shocked and slightly confused.

"Oh um, no. I-uh, I'm not really anything?" Wen says unsure herself on if she could truly trust her mother's judgment or if it was even okay to say she was basically a normie.

"Wendi... are you a normie?" another girl asks slightly standing up to move away.

"My mother is, by my father was an outcast." She replied watching as the faces began to contort in understanding, "But my mother says I am." She regretfully finishes as the table becomes awkward. The once happy girls becoming uncomfortable.

"Well, you're here right. They don't let anyone in." Bianca surprisingly speaks up as she stands to leave the group. "I'm meeting a few people before class, but let's hang out later." She says before leaving without a reply causing the other girls to slowly disperse as well.

Slightly hurt but hopeful, Wendi began to walk to class. As she entered class, a teacher with long brown hair and a white over coat stood at the door greeting the students. Saying hello then entering the class, she saw Bianca once again in the second row taking her supplies out.
