"All students will report for their volunteer jobs at 10:00 a.m. sharp, followed by a community lunch at 1:00." Weems said as the students looked onto her in the quad,"As you know, this year Outreach Day culminates in a very special event, the dedication of a new memorial statue in the town square, which will also include performances by Nevermore students."
Everyone becomes excited as Ms. Thornhill and a few teachers walked around handing out assignments.
Wen stood next to Enid and Wednesday waiting for her turn to pick a slip. Enid going first, quickly opening her paper.
"Yes! I got Pilgrim World." Enid said as she clenched her hands to her chest, "I have natural people skills and a love of performing, so it's kind of the obvi choice. What'd you get?" She asks looking at Wednesday unfolding hers.
"Uriah's Heap, whatever that is."
"Ew. It's this weird, creepy antique store. You'll love it though. " Enid said.
"It can't be that bad." Wendi said looking to Enid.
"I'm crossing my claws Ajax and I will be outreaching together."
"If you aren't, I help find a switch." Wen says with a giggle.
"What did you get Wendi?" Wednesday asks looking at the paper in her hand.
"I got... the Weathervane? What's that?" She asks looking to the two girls.
"Oh, it's the coffee shop!" Enid exclaims, "You'll have so much fun, I was there last year. Lots of free drinks."
Before the girls could say anything else, Principle Weems came up to them, "Wednesday, don't worry about your cello. I'll have it brought to the town square this afternoon."
"My cello?"
Arriving in town, the students had a few minutes before the opening ceremony allowing them to walk around a bit. Wendi sees Wednesday walk up to Xavier as she headed toward Bianca.
"Hey, Where are you volunteering?" Wen asked.
"Pilgrim world. What about you?"
"Weathervane." Wendi responds a bit upset. So far everyone she'd asked didn't have the same assignment and she was starting to feel like she was going to be alone.
"If you need anything just call, People of Jericho act nice but they aren't."
"Yeah, thanks! I'm sure I'll be okay."
Everyone gathered around the Mayor and the soon to be statue. Wendi sat on the bleachers beside Bianca since they were together and waited for the long speech to be over. Thankfully Weems intruded after a while speeding up the introduction.
"Okay, everyone. We'll see you back here at one o'clock for lunch. Enjoy!" She said as the students began to stand rushing in excitement to their station.
Wendi entered the Weathervane, the coffee shop had a cozy atmosphere with the smell of coffee the air and comfy looking booths to sit at. She walked up to the counter to see a boy with curly hair welcome her.
"Hey! Are you one of the volunteers?" He asked.
"Yes, I'm Wendi. Ill apologize in advance since I don't really know how to do any of this."
"It's okay, I was the same when I first started." He said with an awkward smile. "My names Tyler by the way." He continued as he walked around the counter.
"Nice to meet you, Tyler!" Wendi smiled at the awkward boy. He then began to lead her toward the back.
"You can leave your things in here, there are some uniforms to borrow as well. You don't have to change, but I will warn you. You won't make it out without a stain."
