Together, you and Hinata carefully walk your mother over toward the emergency tent outside of the venue. When you arrive, you call out for help, but there's no sound coming from the inside.

"Should we just go in?" you ask Hinata.

"I guess that's why they call it an emergency tent. But is anybody around?" he asks.

"We'll find out when we go in," you nod as you pull the polyester curtain out of your way and allow the others to step in first.

"So much for an emergency tent," Hinata sighs. "There's nobody here."

"You've got to be freaking kidding me? What if someone was having a heart attack?!" you shake your head.

"Let's sit her down," Hinata tells you, staying level-headed. "Then we can worry about getting someone to come over."

You silently agree and sit your mother down in one of the chairs against the tent's walls.

"I'll go look for someone," you then say to Hinata. "Can you just make sure her eyes stay open and she's breathing?" you ask of him.

"I'll do my best. Good luck, Y/N."

"Thanks. I'll be right back, Mom!" you yell, hoping she can hear you before you run off to look for help.

While they wait for you, Hinata sits down beside your mother. He begins to talk to her, telling him about his life mindlessly, as if she was the one who asked to hear all about it.

Eventually, your mother begins to turn her head in his direction. She seems to listen carefully to what he says, though she doesn't say a single thing in response.

A few minutes later, you return with an EMT who had been sipping on daiquiris with one of Fuyuko's friends. You had cursed him out a bit for leaving his post, but after that, you ran straight back to your mother and Hinata.

But the one thing you weren't prepared to see when you walked back into the emergency tent was Hinata and your mother talking about their favorite celebrities.

"What's going on?" you ask as your mother laughs and places her hand on Hinata's shoulder.

"Oh, honey," she smiles so fakely, "Shoyo is such a nice man. The two of you will make a lovely couple. Perhaps you could even use this same venue," she giggles to herself.

"I don't know what you're trying to imply, mother, but you need to stop," you shake your head before you turn to the EMT and fully explain to him what happened minus the whole catching you and Hinata in the act thing.

"Darling, I was just talking to him. A mother-in-law needs to know her new son," she continues to hum happily as the EMT approaches her side.

"Stop. I don't know what's wrong with you- if you hit your head or are finally going insane- but this isn't funny. Not to anybody in this room. Shoyo and I only met each other a few weeks ago."

"Right, only a few weeks, so why you let him defile you in your new sister's dressing room is beyond my comprehension!" she huffs out.

"I, uh, I'm just gonna go wait outside..." Hinata mutters to you as he makes his way toward the tent's entrance.

Too filled with rage, you don't respond to him. It's better off that way, too.

"I'm not sure what's gotten into you, Y/N," your mother shakes her head. "You used to be such a sweet girl. Now it's like watching a whole other person from the one I saw grow up."

"Things change, Mom. I'm an adult—a real person. I will not let you manipulate my life or continue with whatever twisted game you enjoy playing with everyone else. I hope you feel better, but I'm leaving now. The EMT will help you and I'll call Dad so he knows where you are."

With a sigh, you step out of the tent. You then look around and see Hinata standing nearby, scrolling on his phone.

"Hey," you call out quietly to him as you approach his side.

"Hey," he responds, shutting off his phone and putting it away to give you his full attention.

"I'm really sorry about that. My mom can be kind of intense," you explain.

"That's alright. I think all moms are like that to some extent," he tries to empathize.

"Yeah, well, I think I'm going to head home now. I promised her I'd call my dad. After that, I'm going to call an Uber home," you respond a bit awkwardly. If none of this had happened, you probably would've ended up going home with him instead.

"Alright," he nods understandingly. "Text me when you get home so I know you've gotten back safe, okay?"

"I will," you smile as you lean in close to his cheek and kiss him softly. "Thanks for tonight. I had a really good time with you. I honestly thought my date would be some asshole trying to get in my pants all night, but seriously, I'm glad it was you."

Hinata smiles softly at your words. "I'm glad it was me, too. Have a good night, Y/N."

"Yeah, you too," you nod as you watch him begin to walk off.

Then, once he leaves, you do as you had promised and call your dad. You give him about as much information as you gave the EMT before explaining that you left her in good capable hands. Which you are hoping is true. You suppose it just depends on how many daiquiris that guy downed before you found him and dragged him back to his job.

After that, you open your Uber app and call for a ride back to your house. As you wait, you walk to the side of the road and sit down on the curb. Your mind begins to wander about your day. You really did have such a good time with Hinata. Half of you even begs for you to go back, to find Hinata, and forget about all that nonsense with your mom. But the rest of you knows better. He was freaked out by the whole thing- which is why he left the tent. Who wouldn't be freaked out by that? It's totally understandable. So, as your Uber's headlights flash in your direction and you stand up to greet it, you know you're making the right decision.
