A few minutes after Tanaka leaves the room, there's yet again a knock on the door. This time when you look up, you see your brother entering the room.
"Hey," he calls out softly as he shuts the door behind him. "What's-"
When he suddenly stops speaking, you follow his eyes down to the paper on your desk- the wedding certificate between his wife and your husband.
Before you even have a chance to think about reaching the paper, Sawamura snatches it from the desk and silently looks it over.
You don't see any reason to protest at this point. What would asking for the paper back even do? But when Sawamura stands there silently, you've got to say something.
"Are you okay?" you ask quietly.
"Shit," he grumbles as he sits down across from you.
You close your eyes and let out a sigh. How does everything seem to always get worse before it gets better? First Hinata, then Adam, and now Sawamura and Fuyuko. You think perhaps you're cursed with bad luck or something.
Your eyes only open again when you hear the sound of something being placed carefully on the desk. Looking over at Sawamura, you see he's placed his gun down and he's sliding it closer to you.
"What're you doing?" you ask.
"I need you to take care of this, okay?" he whispers.
"You want me to use a gun when I'm not licensed to carry? That seems like the worst possible gun-related decision you could make right now," you explain, thinking that his mind isn't in the right place right now.
"Yes it is," he argues back softly. "I don't want to use it and do something stupid in the heat of the moment. Can you just carry it for me for now?"
When Sawamura looks up at you with his sad almost puppy-dog eyes, you let out a sigh and give in. "Fine, but what are we doing that we're going to need it?"
"I just put it all together, Y/N. The black widow case I was working on- it's Fuyuko. Adam must be in on it, too."
"Shit," you murmur, remembering how you told Fuyuko exactly where you'd be going on vacation with your friends. She knows everything about you and your family. She's been at countless family dinners. Your parents probably like her more than you, for god's sake. Who are you kidding, she had you fooled hook, line, and sinker for the past year. You can't really blame the others for falling for her charm, too.
"Where are we going?" you ask Sawamura as you reach toward the gun. "I'll back you up, no matter what."
"Fuyuko's staying with her parents for the night. I told her I'd be with you so she said she was going to visit them. I figure it'd be a good place to start," he explains.
"And if she's not there then I'd bet she's at Adam's place. We can go there next if-"
"No, she wouldn't be with him. We just beat him up about an hour ago in his own home. It wouldn't be safe for her to go there. She doesn't know if we'd go back or not," he thinks aloud.
"Right," you nod. "That's why you're the detective, Sawamura," you smile. "Now let's stop talking about it and go."
When you stand up, you tuck the gun behind your back in the waist of your pants, covered by your shirt.
Fifteen minutes later, you and Sawamura arrive at Fuyuko's family home. Together, you approach the front steps and knock on their door.
"Who knew marriage would be this insane," you grumble as the two of you wait.
"That's why they've got the vows, Y/N," Sawamura teases you. "Wait, did you even say all that at your cheesy-ass shame of a wedding?"
"You're hilarious, Sawamura," you roll your eyes. "Of course I said all that crap. I didn't think I'd actually be doing the 'until death do us part' aspect first though," you scoff.
Just as Sawamura starts to smile at you, the door finally opens. "Follow my lead," he suddenly whispers just as your eyes meet Fuyuko's on the other side.
"Fuyuko!" Sawamura says as he throws his arms around her as though he was drunk. "I missed you, baby."
"Sawamura?" she asks as she looks over at you. "Are you guys okay? Were you out drinking?"
"Maybe just a bit," you hiccup, following your brother's footsteps.
When Sawamura pulls away from Fuyuko, he pats her shoulders. "I was just wondering if we could hang here for a bit. I'm too drunk to drive home and Y/N looks like she's about to pass out any second."
"It's way too late," you yawn. "I don't think I'd last two minutes behind the wheel. Is it okay if we crash for a bit?"
"Yeah, of course," she nods as she steps aside and allows both of you in.
"Are your parents still awake?" Sawamura asks as he nearly bumps into a wall.
"Babe, be careful," Fuyuko gasps as she runs to Sawamura's aide. "Yeah, they're in the family room watching their soap opera they can't seem to stop watching."
"Ooo, room for three more?" you smile cheesily.
"If you sit down you'll fall asleep," Sawamura laughs at you.
"Fair point," you sigh. "What do you suggest then?" you ask, looking toward Fuyuko.
"Milk," she replies plainly at first. "That usually helps me when I'm drunk or hungover. Follow me to the kitchen, Y/N."
You follow behind Fuyuko and Sawamura over to the kitchen island where the two of you sit down. Fuyuko then takes out two small plastic cups that seem to be for children- one blue and one red.
"I call blue!" you shout as you reach toward the corresponding color.
"You can have it," Sawamura sighs. "Just like the old days."
You can't help but smile at his comment as Fuyuko fills up both glasses with fresh milk from the fridge.
"How's that?" she asks as she leans over the opposing side. "Nice and cold, huh?"
"Umm," you mutter as you look up at her. "Fuyuko, where's your bathroom? I don't feel so good..."
But before she can even answer, you slap your hand over your mouth and run out of the room.
