MONDAY MORNING
The next morning you wake up beside Hinata on the couch. You hardly want to move as your eyes betray you and open.
"Are you awake?" you call out softly, not wanting to turn your head to see if he is or not.
"No," he groans.
"Me neither," you smile at yourself as you attempt to close your eyes again. However, it's your stomach that betrays you this time by rumbling like a thunderstorm in the center of your body.
"Hungry?" he chuckles, causing your eyes to widen in embarrassment. "Did you not have enough to eat last night?" he continues to tease.
Your face heats up as much as it can before possibly exploding. You push yourself off of him and turn so you can face him. "I can hardly swallow anymore," you roll your eyes. "So I don't think that was the issue."
"Then how 'bout this," he replies calmly. "I'll make you some Miso for breakfast and you just take it easy, okay?"
"Come on, you're always making things for me. I'm going to start feeling like a loafer," you sigh.
"A what?" he teases.
"A loafer. You know, someone who just kinda sits around and lets time pass them by," you explain.
"That's not what's happening at all. You've had a hard few weeks, Y/N. It's understandable and I'm only trying to make you feel better. Please don't feel that way," he pleads sincerely.
"Okay," you nod. "Thanks, Hinata. I'm so grateful for everything you've done."
"No need," he grins before leaning down and planting a soft kiss on your lips. "That's what I'm here for. Want anything with your Miso?"
"I don't think so," you shake your head. "Just your company," you then smile. "Are you going to have some, too?"
"Of course I am," he nods as he pulls the blanket off himself and stands up to stretch.
"Hey, Shoyo," you look up at him as you call his name.
"What's up?" he asks as he looks down at you with adoration in his eyes. "Change your mind?"
"No, I was just wondering if we could go back to the hospital after breakfast," you ask. "If you don't want to go, I can take myself but I thought-"
"I'd love to go," he nods. "Let's eat and then I'll help you find something to change into before we go, okay?"
"Sounds perfect. Thanks, Shoyo."
"Anything for you," he hums, patting you on the head before making his way toward the kitchen, unaware of how heat overcomes your face as you watch him walk away.
Later that morning, you and Hinata drive to the hospital to visit your brother. When you get there, both your parents are as well.
Inside the room, your brother is asleep and your parents are just quietly talking on either side of a table beside his bed. But as the two of you step into the room, they tear away from their conversation to look over at you.
"Hi Mom... Dad," you wave before putting your hand in Hinata's. "How's he doing?"
"He'll be okay," your mom smiles sadly. "How are you doing?"
"I'm okay, too," you reply as you walk closer to them with Hinata at your side. "Did either of you see Tanaka around?"
"Yeah, he was outside the room when we came in," your dad responds. "We told him to go home and get some rest."
"Good," you nod. "He's been here way too long, but he's been great to us. Did he, uh, explain everything to you?"
"Explain what?" your mother asks seriously.
You let out a deep breath as you prepare yourself for the conversation you were about to have. You know your parents could both handle it. Your mother was a detective back in the day. And your dad is no stranger to conflict either.
After you explain everything to them, they stare at you with their mouths open. You then begin to ramble about how lucky you were to have Hinata and Tanaka around because the awkwardness is too much for you to handle.
"Except Y/N won't give herself enough credit," Hinata then speaks up. "She did a great job. Daichi and I are both in her debt."
"So then... the two of you are back together?" your mother asks curiously.
"Is that really what you got out of everything I just told you?" you scoff. "Unbelievable."
"Well, honey," your dad speaks in your mother's defense, "it's just that we've heard these kinds of stories from your brother before. And you seemed pretty upset after the last, uh, family dinner. So your mother's just asking what we're both thinking."
You begin to fume at their response. Why can't they just be normal? Why can't they be proud and hug you, saying how happy they are that you're still alive? But instead, all they do is ask you about your relationship status. Seriously?!
"In case you haven't noticed, your son is laying in a fucking hospital bed but you're sitting there asking me if I have a boyfriend or not? You've got to be kidding me!" you begin to spiral.
Just then, Hinata squeezes your hand, stealing your attention. Somehow, when you look at him, you feel much calmer.
"Excuse me, is something the matter in here?" a worried officer standing guard outside asks as he pokes his nosy head into the room.
"We're fine," you respond calmly to him. "We were just leaving."
Hinata nods at you in understanding and, without another word, you both walk out of the room quietly deciding it'd be better to come back when your brother was awake and alone.
When you get outside the hospital, you cross paths with two girls walking in the opposite direction as you.
"Y/N?" one of them calls out. And as you turn your attention to them, you recognize them both.
"Faye? Noha? What're you guys doing here?" you ask.
"We came to visit Daichi," Faye replies as she holds out a bouquet of fresh yellow and white daisies.
"How's he doing?" Kotonoha then asks.
"He'll be alright," you respond.
"Do you guys want to come up with us? Or are you on your way out?" Faye then asks you both.
"No," you shake your head. "I need a break. My parents are up there and he's asleep so we'll come back later."
"Oh, I get it," Kotonoha nods. "Hopefully we'll see you again soon then. Take care you two!"
"Same to you guys," you smile softly.
