Next Friday, four days later, you drive over to Hinata's house and knock on his door with a smile on your face. However, you're quite confused to see the rather depressed look on Hinata's face when he opens the door and lets you in.

"Hey," you call out when you see him, only for your smile to fade when you see the solemn look on his face. "Shoyo, are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine, but there's something I want to talk to you about," he replies.

"Okay," you reply curiously as you step past him into the house. You drop off your things and follow behind him into the main room. Your brain wanders as you walk, your heart beating fast as you try to piece together what he could possibly want to talk to you about. He's not about to break up with you, is he?

"So what's going on?" you ask, trying to put on your best smile as you sit beside him on the couch.

Hinata lets out a deep breath before parting his lips to speak. "I'm leaving Japan," he then blurts out so fast it leaves your brain spinning. It's definitely not what you were expecting him to say.

"You're what?!"

"There's an event convention in California that my boss is requesting I go to. It's a week long and I have to leave on Monday," he then explains.

"A week isn't that long," you shrug as you attempt to think optimistically. "Could I go with you?"

"Y/N, you've got work as well. You already took a day off because of Daichi," he reminds you.

"That was excused. And besides, teachers are able to take more days off than other jobs so it's okay," you assure him.

"I'm sorry, Y/N. I don't think that's a good idea. I really don't know how long I'll be there for," he shakes his head.

"You just said it was a week," you reply as your eyebrows knit together in confusion.

"Yeah, the convention is a week. But I might stay in California after that," he sighs as he breaks eye contact.

"What? You're leaving?" you gasp.

"Yes, but please," he calls to you as he reaches for your hand and holds it in his, "We can still enjoy the time we have together before I go."

"This is really how you decide to tell me?" you scoff as you pull your hand out of his. "You decide to drop this bomb on me and say well at least we have two days left? You just said you might never come back!"

"Y/N, nothing's permanent yet," he attempts to explain. However,  you refuse to hear him as you stand up and shake your head.

"Sounds pretty permanent to me," you reply before turning and making your way back to the door. However, before you make it there, Hinata grabs your arm and spins you around to face him once more.

"I'm sorry, Y/N. I didn't know how else to tell you. I didn't know what else to say. I'm not ready to say goodbye to you," he whispers.

For the moment of silence that then sits between the two of you, you're not sure whether you want to kiss him or slap him. But in the end, you decide on neither.

"You know what, you made your decision. All that I can say is if you go to California and stay there, don't come crawling back to me."

"You're right," he nods as he lets go of your arm. "Sorry for grabbing you."

"Hope you have a nice life, Shoyo," you scoff as you slide on your shoes and grab your jacket.

A moment later, you're slamming the door behind you and stomping down his driveway. But when you get into your car, anger melts into sadness, and tears stream down your face.

You lean forward and put your forehead on the steering wheel. Your eyes shut tight as your breathing gets faster and more shallow while your nose runs like a faucet. Your hands clench on the sides of the steering wheel as fuzzy thoughts make your brain so confused.

You're so pissed that you actually considered him- that you actually considered listening to your mom. You genuinely liked Hinata. Who knows what could have become of the two of you had he actually stuck around? But maybe you should've just seen this coming.

A few moments later, you pick up your head and wipe your tears. You know better than to stay in Hinata's driveway. He'd probably end up coming out and attempting to comfort you. But the last thing you want right now is to see him. So instead, you put your car in reverse and drive off.

On the ride home, you feel so dizzy. Your brain begins to pound. Tears still flood from the corners of your eyes, making it hard to see the other cars and trucks on the road.

But thanks to the rush of adrenaline you're feeling, you make it home quickly and without a scratch.

Stepping out of your car and into the cool air does wonders for your body. Though the second you step into your house chills sweep your skin.

Sluggishly, you make your way over to your couch and plop yourself down. Between a hot flash and the chills, you grab your blanket and toss it over your entire body.

The tears make it difficult for you to sleep. All you can think about is him. How you genuinely thought you had found something in him. But instead, your heart is cut wide open.

You try to tell yourself that it isn't Hinata's fault. It's for work and he can't just give up his career for a girl he'd met fairly recently.

Besides, you're not the kind of girl to have such luck. Meeting your husband at a coffee shop on your way home from work at the university? That isn't something people say in real life, just books and stories made up for people to have hope for their miserable lives.

So, instead of having a new beau in your life, you'll just be continuing on with business as usual.

Maybe in another life...
