FOUR MONTHS LATER- FEBRUARY 13
Like your parents had done in the past, today you've decided to host your own dinner party with Hinata. You had invited your parents, your brother, as well as Kotonoha and Faye.
Unlike most of the dinner parties your parents host, yours runs quite smoothly. You enjoy the food, the conversations, and every moment in between.
After the main course, you and Hinata clean up the table and start washing some of the dishes together. "That went pretty well in there, don't ya think?" you ask as you put another plate into the sink.
"Yeah, it did," he smiles at you. "Hey, uh, after we finish cleaning up can we talk about something?"
"Is something wrong?" you reply. "My parents didn't say anything rude to you, did they?"
"No, it's nothing like that," he shakes his head as he looks down at the dishes he's currently washing.
"Then what is it?" you repeat.
But before Hinata has the chance to respond, your mother walks in. When you look over at her, she's humming quietly to herself. Suddenly, something changes within you as if everything just clicked. This dinner. On the night before Valentine's Day. Your parents playing nice. Hinata wanting to 'talk'.
"Um, I'm going to step outside for a sec," you say to Hinata as you put down the drying towel. "I'll be right back."
"Okay," he nods, still looking down as you walk out of the room.
Your breathing quickens as you open the front door, coming to a hilt when you nearly trip on something on the stairs.
"Shit," you murmur to yourself before looking down and seeing Faye with her hands over her eyes, quietly sobbing to herself.
"Faye?" you whisper as you look down at her. But when you hear another voice clear their throat, you look up and see Sawamura standing in front of her.
"I'm really sorry," he sighs sadly before walking past the two of you and into the house.
Recognizing immediately what must've just happened, you sit down beside Faye and wrap your arm around her. "Hey, are you alright?" you whisper softly.
"He rejected me, Y/N," she sniffs. "He told me that he likes me as a person but he can't be with me because of something he says I haven't figured out yet. I don't even know what the hell that means!" she then groans.
"I think you do," you reply as you pull her close to your side.
"Of course I do, Y/N," she then admits after a slight pause. "But I'm scared. I don't know how other people are going to treat me once I act on my feelings."
"Well, I can somewhat relate to that. I feel scared, too. Hinata told me he wanted to talk and I think I know what he's going to say," you whisper as you begin to stare off into space.
"Are you okay with it?" Faye looks over at you. "Giving in to what your mom wants?"
"I am," you nod, "because it's no longer about what my mom wants. It's about me and what I want."
Faye then lifts up her head and smiles softly at you. "I wish I was as brave as you, Y/N. Saving people's lives, risking your own..."
"You already are brave, Faye," you smile back at her. "Being brave means you are really scared, but you get up and do it anyway. You persevere despite the fear you hold."
Just then, the front door opens behind you. You both turn around to look behind you and see Kotonoha looking quite nervous back at you.
"What's going on?" she asks.
"I need to go talk to Shoyo about something. Do you think you could sit here with Faye?" you ask her, putting a small plan in motion.
"Of course," she nods.
You then stand and swap places with Kotonoha. But before you leave, you turn and watch as she puts her hand on Faye's cheek, wiping her tears. You smile to yourself as you reach for the doorknob and step back inside.
Almost immediately, your dad bombards you with a glass of champagne.
"What's this?" you chuckle as you accept the unexpected gift.
"I know you," he nods. "And I know you're gonna want to drink that before you go in the back."
"Why?" you smile at him before taking a small sip from the glass. "What's in the back?"
"Hinata."
Once more, your heart rate kicks up a mile a second. You had almost forgotten for a split second what you had gone outside to escape from.
"Thanks, Dad, I needed that," you nod as you take another sip of your drink while your face burns with heat.
"I'll be back," you smile nervously at him as you walk with your drink in hand to the backyard.
There, when you spot Hinata standing a few yards away from the door, you down the rest of your drink. However, this sip is unlike the two before. Something cold meets your lip when you go to drink.
Pulling the champagne away from your lips, you look down into the nearly empty glass and see something shimmering inside. You look up at Hinata who smiles and takes a few steps in your direction.
Then, looking back down, the shining object takes shape. A beautiful ring stares up at you from the bottom of the glass. Immediately, the whole world begins to spin around you. For a second, you begin to think you might faint. That is, until Hinata takes you by the hand and grounds you. Like he does. Like he always has before.
"Y/N," he calls out to you as he gets down on his knee just like the day he had asked you on the Montego trip. Except this time is much different. "You make me happier than I ever thought was possible. I want to spend the rest of my life, trying to make you feel the same each and every day. I know there will be tough times. But I also know that if I don't ask you to be mine, I'll regret it for the rest of my life. So, Y/N, will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?"
"Yes," you whisper softly, still unsure if this is really happening.
"What was that?" he teases. You know he heard you perfectly well.
"Yes," you smile as he stands to his feet. You then throw your arms around him, letting him scoop you right off the ground.
And finally, though you never thought it'd be possible for you to find true happiness with someone as amazing as the one you've found... you are finally right where you want to be.
