Chapter 2

My Fiance and I were in Darry's living room watching the TV with the rest of the gang, Our laughs were interrupted by a knock on the door. " I'll get it," Darry sighed, rising from his seat and walking toward the door; " YOU!" he exclaimed once he saw who was on the other side of the door. All of our heads snapped to where he stood. " Hi Darry" a female voice responded, Soda tightened his grip around me as if he knew whoever it was, was a threat.

The whole gang jumped off the couch standing behind Darry who had his arms crossed across his chest. " Is Soda here?" she asked, Soda? What the hell is going on here? Who the hell is she?!?  " Hello Sandy," he replied coldly, That's Sandy? Didn't she move to Florida a decade ago? The gang stood behind Soda like bodyguards protecting a Nigerian prince. "What are you doing here?" he asked, " I missed you, I couldn't stop thinking about you and I am so sorry for everything" She responded innocently as she rushed to kiss him. He turned his head quickly away from her lips before they could reach him, I pushed her off out of instinct and rage and the gang pulled her away. " I'm not sure if you've noticed, Sandy, but I'm happily engaged to the love of my life" He raised his voice, which he rarely if ever does. " But I love you!" she blurted out, My blood boiled hotter than a fiery sea, and Soda's face twisted in an angry expression that I have never seen before. " HA! YOU LOVE  ME? I DON'T THINK SO, YOU LIED TO ME, CHEATED ON ME, AND WHEN I FIND THE TRUE LOVE OF MY LIFE, YOU COME BACK ALL OF A SUDDEN AND TRY TO BREAK US APART? YOU LEFT FOR TEN YEARS AND TORE MY HEART APART AS I WATCHED IT BURN FOR YEARS, THIS WONDERFUL WOMAN SAVED ME AND SHOWED ME WHAT LOVE TRULY IS. SOMETHING YOU COULD HAVE NEVER DONE!" he yelled, I've never seen him so angry, this girl destroyed his life for years; she was left flabbergasted with her jaw dropped. " I'm not sure if ya understand, ya swine from hell, but you can turn around and leave! There's the door" I fumed with one of my fists clenched and the other pointing to the door.

" GO ON! GET OUTTA HERE! YOU'RE A TRAITOR TO THIS TOWN SANDY! " Steve ordered; Johnny, Pony, Dally, and Two-bit began chasing her until she was out of our territory.

Soda burst through the door of my apartment with a huge smile painted upon his face, " Hey Soda, how was work?" I asked. His smile broadened " It was pretty good considering I GOT PROMOTED TO CFO!"  He responded jumping up and down, " BABY! THAT'S AMAZING!" I squealed. He has been working his ass off at that gas station for a decade, It was about time they recognized his work ethic and undeniable skill with cars and how much thought and effort he puts into his work. " I'll make a chocolate cake to celebrate, you can tell the gang to come over" I smiled, he flashed his movie star smile down at me,

After we told the gang and their girlfriends the news and celebrated over dinner, Dally looked around. " Um, I should probably tell you guys, that group of Socs was talkin smack bout our gang; I ain't about to let it slide so he scheduled a rumble" he explained.
" When is it?" I asked,
" In two days" Dally replied;
" Aight let's go" I smiled,
" Doll, I love you but I  think you oughta stay out of this one babe" Soda advised, " Please babe, this ain't like the other rumbles. I know the guys' Dal's talkin bout, They're merciless, especially towards gals like you. They could kill you if they got the chance".
" Babe, are we supposed to let you and the boys possibly go and get killed?" I replied with my voice quivering as the girls stood behind me.
" We'll be fine, love, I promise." he assured
" Fine" I gave in. " All of y'all be careful or me and the girls will skin ya, understand?"
" Yes, ma'am" they all replied.

I sat on the couch bouncing my leg out of nervousness, " Sara, I've never seen you so nervous" Presley, Ponyboy's girlfriend, soothed.
" I just can't help but wonder i-if they'll make it out alive" I whispered while fidgeting with my engagement ring.
" Oh Sara, They'll be alright" Kira, Two-bit's girlfriend, consoled
" You heard what they said, the socs they're fighting against are ruthless" I practically bawled " I-I need to wash the dishes" I suppressed whipping away my tears.
" I'll get you some tissues" Deliah, Darry's fiance, offered
" Thank you," I replied. I got up and walked to the kitchen and its sink full of dirty dishes. Once there were only a few dishes left, I felt a pair of strong arms snake around me; I gasped once I saw who it was " Soda!" I cried " I was so worried" tears streamed down my face and onto his shirt. " Hey, It's okay honey, I'm here" he whispered in my ear, I noticed all the bruises and cuts left on him from the fight. " here, let me help you with those" I gingerly offered. He sat down and the girls and I got seven first aid kits that we have for the boys when they come back from rumbles. I got the one labeled Soda <3   and brought it back to where he was sitting. He showed me his bruises that lined his ribcage and cuts along his cheeks and lips, I flinched looking at him in such a terrible state. " How'd it go?" I asked, trying to get Soda to think of something other than the undeniable pain, " pretty good, we won," he replied, flinching a little at the rubbing alcohol-soaked cotton pad I placed over one of his cuts. " Soda completely kicked this Socs butt, Sara! You should have seen it! The most muscular out of all of the Socs towered over him and Soda elbowed him in the stomach we watched in amazement and he hit the ground!" Steve added. " I don't doubt it, '' I giggled.

That night, I was preparing supper as Soda was napping; I prepared his mother's recipe of chicken noodle soup she made for them when they were little. As I scraped the cut-up carrots off the cutting board and onto the boiling pot of water, Soda wrapped his arms around me. " I looooooove you" purred Soda,  " I just happen to love you a whole heck of a lot too, Mr. Curtis" I replied, Once upon a dream could be heard playing on the TV from the kitchen. I set down everything I was holding and Soda took my hands in his, we glided across the room lost in each other's gaze;

"I can't wait for you to become my Mrs. Curtis"
