Hey, quick disclaimer, this is based on a personal story that happened to me so please be kind and don't comment anything hurtful

The gang came over to our house after breakfast as they normally do every Saturday as our kids played together. We adored seeing them get along so well, Soda and I could hear them all the way from the kitchen as they giggled and laughed. It was adorable! Soda kissed my temple as he went to the other side of the kitchen to store away the plates he just dried as I continued washing the never-ending pile of dishes. Although I couldn't ask for a better place to be, Washing the dishes beside the man of my dreams hearing the laughter of my child and her friends and chuckles from mine and my husband's friends. My life is pretty great, I wouldn't change it for the whole world.

" Sara, someone's on the phone for you" Soda informed me as he approached me with the home phone in his hand.
" thank you, darling" I responded as he handed me the phone,
" Hello, Sara Jones Curtis speaking"
" Sara? My Sara Jones?" An elderly voice replied; my eyes widened, I instantly recognized who she was. I left a gap between my face and the phone as I turned to my husband, " Soda, take the kids to another room". He didn't question it and redirected all of the kids into the playroom as the gang followed. I got back on the phone with a bitter tone, she was the last person I wanted to talk to.
" Hello Anna"
"sweetheart, I haven't heard your voice in years. Why are you holding a grudge against your own family? and you know you can call me grandma like you did when you were little" " family is supposed to support you, not spread lies to hurt you! You believed and spread the lies saying my father and his side of the family did NOTHING to help my cancer-diagnosed mother! As a primary, credible, source I can say with a calm conscience that we slaved away to help her, we loved her! You were the one who never cared about my family. You let your wrath and jealousy blind you and committed actions based on what you wanted to see in my father's family. Family never pushes other members down; At that moment, I realized who really was my family. I refuse to call you 'grandma'. I don't care if I did when I was younger, I didn't know your true nature and I suppose all grandmas just try to break your family apart?! as a matter of fact-"
I felt a slight tug on the bottom of my skirt, I looked down and saw Charlotte, my 4-year-old daughter, trying to get my attention. "Mommy? Who's that?" She asked,
" Is that your child? Who's the father?" Anna questioned as soon as she heard Charlotte's voice. " That is none of your concern, you got what you wanted now, leave me and my family alone!" I shouted into the phone and hung up instantly tightly gripping the phone as I slammed it into its holder on the wall.

My eyebrows rested after being knitted in fury for so long as my grip on the phone lightened and fell to my knees, sobbing. " Mommy, what's wrong?" Charlotte placed her tiny hand on my arm, " nothing we fix, I'm afraid, sweetheart" I sniffled. Soda rushed in after noticing our daughter was missing and rushed over to my side, " Honey, what's wrong? What happened? Who called you?"
" Remember I told you about my grandma?"
" No! I mean, yes I do remember but that was her?!"
" Yes"
The whole gang rushed in and Jennifer offered to watch the kids as we talked as they had the right to know. Charlotte refused to leave my side, she has her father's heart and stubbornness. She cuddled up in my lap with her arms around me as I told the gang the full story. The whole gang was all ears ready to hear the story of the family feud that has been everlasting since I was 12, "Before my mother passed, My Father's mother came to visit and help out around the house and helped care for my mother when my father and I couldn't since I was busy with school to earn the bright future my mother wished for me and my dad with his work to keep a roof over our heads and medical procedures going. We spared no expense with my mother's treatments, we just wanted her alive and well; for her to live long enough to see one of her dreams come true: to become a grandma. Apart from our efforts, God wanted her by his side sooner. She passed away in the hospital a month later. The next morning I received a call from my gran- Anna, My dad took the phone and began to cuss her out after a few minutes. I found out that my mother's sister spread lies about how my mother wanted to be dead and was unhappy with her life with us when she didn't even go to visit my dying mother. My mother's side believed her, Anna yelled at my father and I drifted away from her after she attempted to tear my family apart to yank me towards them, they were possessive over me. My father wanted me to keep limited contact with my mother's side to honor my mother and not to resent them but after a while, I lost contact. Hearing her voice brought me right back and gave me that feeling of betrayal, her audacity to believe she could just waltz right back into my life as if nothing had ever happened, angered me, and, well, you know the rest".
I felt bad for lashing out at Anna and I know her time is limited but I still could never bring myself to see the people who backstabbed me as they tried to tear me away from my father's family who have always been with me. As soon as I wrapped up my explanation, Soda wrapped his arms around me and everyone followed, I knew I may have lost a lot to Anna but one thing she and anyone else can never take away from me is my new life as my husband, child, father, and friends will always stand by me, no matter what.
