A new start

"I can't seem to fall asleep!" Kait said on the night of December 30th rolling out of bed and heading to Mat's room making sure that she didn't make any noise. As she slowly crawled on top of Mat the bed made a creaking noise causing Mat to wake up to Kait in an oversized Kimetsu no Yaiba shirt laying on top of him. "OMG, Kait!" Mat said as he rolled off of his bed, due to all of this noise everyone went to go check up on Mat and saw him pinned to the bed frame and Kait slowly crawling up to him and laying her head on his leg. "I'm so sorry, looks like we interrupted something!" Steven, Rei, Ruri, Sofiya, and Sel said backing away from them while closing their eyes, causing Mat and Kait to rush and explain what was really going on.

It is now New Year's Eve and the group wakes up fairly later than their usual time and say good morning to each other, planning out how they wish to celebrate. "Since this is Kait's first New Years we should go all out and invite a bunch of people!" Mat said "We can stay up late until midnight and see the ball in New York drop on TV!" Sofiya added, "We can even order some yummy food for the occasion!" Ruri said "Yeah, we can order Jack's fry fry like all the other times!" Sel agreed "That's great and all but we should ask what Kait thinks." Steven said "Thanks, I actually don't know what you guys are talking about, is it something close to that one celebration that we did a few months ago?" Kait asked "Yeah, in the sense that they are both holidays, New Years is well the end of the year and the start of a new one and we get to reflect on what we've done in the past and what we can do to better ourselves in the future." Mat explained.

"Shouldn't we reflect on our past more often than just one holiday?" Kait asked "You would be right but on this day people actually try to get their shit together and write resolutions that they almost never follow through with, it's fun though." Ruri said "Yeah, we can invite a whole bunch of friends and even some that Kait hasn't met yet like Jason and the no game Garcias." Rei explained "I'm willing to do anything, it kind of sounds like fun!" Kait said "Okay since this year's plan is gonna be pretty big I suggest that we break up into groups." Ruri explained

"Right, one should concentrate on the food, the other one on the decorations, and the last one on the invite list." Steven said "Me, Kait, and Mat can do food, Rei and Sofiya can do the invitations, and Steven and Ruri can do decorations." Sel claimed "I'm fine with that." Mat, Kait, Rei, and Sofiya said as Steven and Ruri looked at each other and nodded indicating that they were fine with the plan.

As Mat walked into Jack's fry fry bells rang on top of him and an aroma of fries, burgers, and fried chicken invaded his nose. Kait observed the bustling restaurant as a man in a red shirt stained with oil, tan joggers, long brown beard, and a white apron waved at the group as Mat wished for everyone there to see Kait. Sel then cut the line and walked toward the man as Kait and Mat walked behind him. "Sel how's it been, and Mat como estas, hermano?" The man said high fiving both of them. "I've just been living life, hopefully next year is less chaotic than this one has." Sel said "Si hermano, although a lot of shit happened this year I've liked it and I'm happy for the next one. But anyway, Jack, how are you?" Mat asked "Pretty good, sales have been going up since our first customer said good things about us." Jack said "What can I say we are pretty great." Sel said "So are you gonna introduce me or what?" Kait asked "Oh right, Jack this is Kait and Kait this Jack." Mat explained "Nice to meet you, muy bonita es." Jack said, causing Kait to get confused and for Mat to turn red knowing that this was true. (Muy bonita es basically translates to you're really pretty) "So what do you guys want? You know I gotta make my first ever customers a priority." Jack said "The usual and two more crazy fry platters." Mat said as in an instant Jack cooked up some food for them and served it up in a giant brown bag. "Thanks dude, talk to you some other time." Jack said as the group walked away and Kait waved bye behind Mat.

Meanwhile during this time Steven and Ruri walked to the nearest dollar store to gather some decorations, not uttering a word to each other, they talked so much online and with other people around that when they were faced with talking alone and in real life it got kinda awkward. "Dude I need your help!" Ruri texted to Mat "What happened now?" Mat asked "What do you mean what happened now? Your cousin won't talk to me and it's hella awkward, I might as well just walk back to the dorm." Ruri texted "Bro if you guys like each other then why not say something? Did he at least say a hello?" Mat asked "Nope, plus why can't he say something?" Ruri replied "IDK just say something." Mat texted back "Sooooooooo...the weather am I right?" Ruri said "Huh?" Steven responded, looking at her while grabbing some balloons. "I gotta go!" Ruri said, dashing to the bathroom and complaining to Mat again.
