Chapter twenty-six

"You're finally awake! I was so worried, I...I was scared I wasnt gonna see you again." Kait said while hugging Mat, everyone else in the room merely watched them. "Ow, can you get off for a second." Mat asked Kait as a shock of pain spread through his body, Kait did as she was told and sat down in a black chair. "Mijo, are you okay?" Mat's mother asked. "I'm fine Mami, when you consider that I had a knife through me an hour ago I think I'm doing amazing." Mat said.

"Why did you have to act so reckless, I thought you were gonna leave us, you had me worried Mat, you had everyone worried." Ruri said as tears dripped from her face. "Sorry, just seeing Kait in that situation made me so frustrated and mad or like...I dont know, I just thought if he hits me than i'll just hit him back even harder." Mat explained as a doctor entered the room and everyone went quiet.

"Why so melancholic, hmm well I guess I should tell you guys the good news then. We sewed Mat's wound shut, we also examined his body of any diseases that the knife might have carried and there were none, along with that we checked if any of Mat's internal organs were punctured and if any bones were damaged, that came out to be none as well. I say that Mat is pretty lucky to not have gotten more hurt, he can go home but under a lot of supervision." The doctor explained as everyone bickered to see who would take care of Mat until someone broke the silence, Kait. "I mean I can do it, Mat did put himself in danger and got himself stabbed just to help me out so I think that it'll be a good way to pay him back." Kait said as everyone remained silent. "Sounds good to me. Kait, I'll inform your school that you'll be looking after Mat and Mat. I'll tell them about what happened today so that they can cut you a little slack. Senora here are Mat's documents in both Spanish and English, with all that being said I suppose you can all be on your way." The doctor said as he exited the room.

"K let's go." Rei said as he helped Mat from his bed and got his keys out. After Mat got dressed into his casual clothes the group headed out as Mat walked in front of everyone with Kait to his side. "Why did you do that?" Mat asked. "Uh more context please." Kait said. "Why did you get out of your way to help me?" Mat asked. "Honestly I could ask the same thing about you, but I guess it just comes down to me just wanting to care for you, you needed a hand so I lended one." Kait said. "Hmm, I guess what I should really say is thanks, I really mean it." Mat said as he approached the door of Rei's car. "Yeah no prob." Kait smiled as Mat got in the car.

"So that's Kait huh?" Mat's mom asked Sofiya, now at Mat's dorm. "Huh, oh yeah, did you guys not talk at the hospital?" Sofiya asked. "No, I guess when I heard that algo passo a (something happened to) Mat I didn't have time to mess with anything else." Mat's mom explained. "Did you hear about Kait from the rest of the family?" Sofiya asked. "Yeah but I believe the whole wish thing, weird things did always happen to Mat. Even though they're not dating they look like enamorados (lovers)." Mat's mom explained. "They sure do huh." Sofiya said as she looked at Mat's room. "Well I should get going, I'll go say bye to Mat." Mat's mom said as she waved goodbye to everyone and headed into Mat's room.

"Ow'' Mat exclaimed. "I can't see if your wound is okay if I don't lift your shirt, " Kait said as she slowly took Mat's shirt off, Mat's mom seeing the whole thing. "Iban a hacer algo? (Were you going to do something?)" Mat's mom asked. "No senora, actually I was just going to check on Mat's wound but I guess you can take it from here" Kait said as she left Mat's room. "You good?" Sofiya asked as she saw Kait with her face all red. "I was checking Mat's wound and had to take his shirt off but when Mat's mom opened the door it looked like I was trying to do something else, I'm so embarrassed!"  Kait said as she covered her hands with her face. "She'll let it slide, I mean she thinks you guys look cute together, don't worry about, believe it or not she might be rooting for you and Mat to get together." Sofiya said as she put her arm over Kait's shoulder. Kait blushed at the thought of this being true and the chapter came to an end.
