"So why do you think people leave the company?"

Of course. This is what people usually ask me. In the industry where I am in, people leaving for good are called turn overs. If I talk about it with technicalities, you will never understand.

"People move on. We are known to be relentless beings and when we are no longer happy, we seek the happiness that we deserve. I think that's the reason people leave."

I'm seated in front of one of the visiting clients. This is usually the standard. They ask questions pertaining to our process, our updates, our tactics in leading teams. All are standard procedures of the company.

But nevertheless, they ask questions that are too tedious to answer.

"I understand that, philosophically. But business wise, what do you think can we improve on to make sure we avoid people leaving."

I sighed and concentrated on her pristine blue eyes.

"I think that people need more ways to be rewarded for the hard work that they put in."

"But haven't we done that?"

"Done what?"

"We've been paying a hefty amount for the company's incentives. Every year we've been paying about three to five million in peso."

Talaga ba? Bakit walang nakakarating sa mga tao? Ni minsan ay wala kaming narinig na incentives program.

"Well, I guess I was mistaken. We might have something in place. I'm just not aware or maybe my team just doesn't get counted."

Was the team building funds they've given the same as the incentives program that was introduced to the client? But even if that is happening, the amount they have is not even half of what the client is talking about.

"Well, do you think further efforts are needed to be done?"

"I think that you all have done your part. Maybe its something we'd have to deal with internally. Perhaps our incentives program is not working very well."

"Hmm." napansin ko ang tila pag-iisip niya, "Is that something you'd be interested to work on? Finding out what kind of incentives program you have and get back to me?"

"I can. But I hope my name stays anonymous in all of this?"

"Of course it will be. As much as you care about your people, we also care the same way. Even when this is business, we spend most of our times in these four corners. I definitely think they all deserve to be rewarded in the best way that we can. Especially the ones who has gone the extra mile to give us the best performance."

"I understand. And thank you for putting in the effort."

"Of course."

As soon as our conversation ended, I was too agitated to settle down. So I walked into our Human Resource office.

Luckily, I found our HR head having a quiet conversation with her people.

As soon as she sees me, she stopped laughing and greeted me.

"What can I do for you today Sari?"

"I have something I would like to talk to you about."

"That seems important. Do you need us to be in a private room?'

"Yes please."

Our HR manager has always been a jolly person. In the BPO industry or any industry it may be, HR is the heart of the company. That's what she keeps telling me when we get to talk to each other. She led me towards an empty conference room. She's always been the prim and proper type. Someone who's always on a collar and skirt outfit, a highly opinionated person and yet she's always been fair.
