Percy was walking down the path from Chiron, planning to head towards Zeus cabin. He was kicking rocks and was slightly excited about the news he just received. He was going to ask Thalia to join him on a small job, just to take down a hydra that just reformed. He knocked on Thalia's cabin door, knowing that it was either her or Jason to answer the door. No one answered, he knocked again with still no one answering. He left the front porch of the Zeus cabin wondering where she could be. He checked the strawberry field, nothing. He checked the beach, nothing. He then headed towards the training grounds, where he finally saw her. Thalia was slicing into a practice dummy using her spear, and hitting it on the let side of the head with her shield. He watched in amazement on how quick she use a spear without getting tired. Thalia looked over at him smiling.
"Need something?"
"I-I umm was just g-gonna, ask you something"
"That is?"
Percy quickly snapped to his senses.
"I was gonna ask you to go on a hydra job with me."
"Of course!"
Percy then told Thalia to gear up and meet him at the front entrance in twenty minutes. Percy sprinted back to the Poseidon cabin gathering up his leather armor and grabbing a bag of beef jerky. He sat by the front entrance for at least ten minutes not realizing how excited he was to go. Thalia came soon after holding two bags one with exposed weapons and the other that was zipped up. They walked by the road for about an hour until they reached the bus stop, where they sat in awkward silence. It was unexplainable why they sat like that but they did for about seventeen minutes until the bus came, right on schedule. When they got in Percy paid for both of their tickets and sat down towards the back. When they sat down Percy took the window seat and relaxed knowing the ride was gonna be a long one. Percy felt Thalia's hand lay upon his and he tensed up. When the bus stopped they both headed towards the mini-mart across the road.
"I heard that someone saw it in the basement? That's a weird place to find a hydra"
"Hell yeah it is"
Both Percy and Thalia walked through the doors, Thalia raised her bow aiming at the cashier. He hissed and lunged at Percy. Percy quickly split him in half, turning him to ashes. They walked through the employees only door which had a stair case leading down. Thalia held Percy's arm, obviously frightened by the scary lighting. Percy walked down with her, making a small creek with each step on the wood surface. They finally made it into a room where they immediately were stunned with fear. They froze, seeing a hydra on the ground, but this wasn't a normal hydra. This was clearly..... A baby! The hydra's eyes opened and stared at Thalia and Percy. Percy drew his sword. The hydra had only two heads but it was smiling at them, as if it was trying to play along. Percy moved his sword to the left, and then to the right with the hydra's head following. Percy smiled back, but Thalia was still scared. Percy threw his sword to the left side of the room and the hydra quickly chased it down. With the sword handle in its mouth it carried it back to Percy dropping it at his feet. Percy knew at that moment, he couldn't kill it. Percy turned to look at Thalia for advise but then he heard something slice, Thalia was facing forward with her spear pointed down at the baby hydra. When Percy looked back there was no baby hydra, only a small pile of ash. Percy looked at Thalia in horror, he thought about how easily she killed such an innocent creature (who was going to become a beast when it was older but that's besides the point). Percy felt cold, he never had to kill a baby of any kind. He grabbed Thalia's hand and pulled her out of the mini-mart. They sat at the bus stop once agin, in complete silence, until Thalia spoke up.
"H-hey.. Is there something wrong?"
".....yeah. It just startled me that you killed such a playful creature without thinking twice"
"Well it was either it or us. Trust me I thought twice but had to move quick"
"Ok..."
They sat like that for twenty minutes, then the bus arrived. They got on drove and got off at the stop they originally went to at the start of the job. They walked back to camp half-blood in silence. When they got the the front of camp half-blood they stopped right outside the entrance.
"Percy... I don't know what you wanted me to say-"
Thalia stopped in the middle of her words, and looked down. There was the tip of a sword piercing through her, she fell into Percy's arms. When Percy looked up he saw a boy, no older then twelve with brown hair and brown eyes staring back at him. The boy ran away back inside camp half-blood.
"No no no no.. Don't die on me!" Percy grabs her trying to stop the blood flow. He forgot about the boy and picked Thalia up, sprinting to the get some help for her. People quickly noticed and did everything they could to help, they carried her off into the Big House. Percy looked around to at least find the boy, barely remembering what he looks like because it all happened so fast, but then he spotted him. He was looking at him from the beach, Percy ran towards him. The boy started to run away, he grabbed a canoe and jumped into it making a slash. He started to row away but Percy obviously knew this wasn't going to work. Percy jumped into the water, but started to manipulate the water to make it look as if he was running on the water. Percy ran after him, it was impossible for the boy to row faster then he could run. When Percy got to the boat he used Riptide to slice it in half, using the other arms to lift the boy.
"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?" Percy was yelling at him.
The boy said nothing but stared at him frightened for his life.
Percy using all the strength in his body, carried both the boy and parts of the canoe to the middle of the lake. He threw the boy into the water and kept the canoe in his arms.
"You're gonna have to swim, and I heard you can get eaten if you don't" Percy left the boy only hearing him yell after him.
Percy got the beach and saw that the boy could swim and was heading towards him but at a slow rate. Percy went to the Big House to check on Thalia. She was sleeping with a bandage around her stomach, laying completely still. Percy then saw an Hermes girl come into the cabin.
"She's going to be fine, you just need to let her rest Percy"
"I'm not leaving her side until she wakes up"
"Alright but you might be here a couple days, we don't know how long the recovery is gonna be"
"Okay"
She left, leaving an unconscious Thalia and Percy alone. Percy started to cry thinking about how close that could've been, but wiped his tears when Chiron came through the door.
"What happened?"
"The boy stabbed her, I found him and put him in the middle of the lake, he should be here any second"
"I would have never imagined that one of our demigods would do such a thing"
Chiron let to find the boy for questioning leaving Percy there with just his thoughts and worries about Thalia and what it if she had died.
