Chapter 1
Rayan.
I awakened to see Imani in my arms. We didn’t do anything last night. It wasn’t because she was too drunk to, or she wasn’t feeling it. I didn’t want to take advantage of her while she was drunk. I kissed her forehead and continued to look at her sleep. She’s so beautiful. She’s so gorgeous. She’s so… she’s so not mine. She needs to be mine though. I could make her happy, and she could be the one person to keep me company when I need it. It’s just that… I haven’t told her how I feel yet. I’m waiting for the perfect time to tell her. Sometimes, I fear rejection because we’re nothing, but “close friends”. We’re more than that. I just know we are. Everyone can see that. Even a blind man can see that. Every time I make an effort to bring us closer, something inside of me tells me not to do it. I go with my doubts rather than what my heart says. But, I’ll do it one day… I’ll tell her how I feel, and I’ll take the rejection like the man I’m becoming. In the midst of my thoughts, Imani’s eyes opened. She looked into my eyes for a good five seconds, which is better than the usual .2 second glimpse, before sitting up and stretching. “Good morning, Iman---.” “God, Ray. Why are you yelling?” she asked, running her fingers through her hair. “I’m not yelling, Imani… Uh, do you want some breakfast?” I asked, sitting up. “What time is it?” she asked, disregarding my offer to make breakfast. “It’s almost noon”, I slightly smiled, looking at my phone, “Guess I’m making brunch”. She grabbed her heels hurriedly and slipped them on. “Where are you going?” I asked her. “I’m going home… My dad is coming from out of town at two o’clock,” she answered. “Just stay for a little while, Imani… Just---.” “I have to go. Bye, Ray. I’ll see you later,” she kissed my cheek before leaving. I groaned and laid back onto the bed. I HATE the friend zone.
Craig.
I spent the night on the rooftop with Alix. Once we were alone, we finally started to talk. Alix doesn’t like discussing her inner most thoughts in front of people. Even if the people are across the room, she insists on spacing out rather than talk. Alix… Everyone worries about her. I, for one, do too. For everyone else, they can just look at Alix and see something’s not right, but I actually know what’s happening. Alix is… a little suicidal, and she just needs some attention. I’m going to be the one to give her that attention, even if it’s the last thing I do. I care about her, and she’s fascinating. She’s curious about a lot of things, and she’s the very essence of innocence… It’s just a lot of things polluting her mind. To me, she’s the most beautiful girl in the world, and I’d do anything for her to know that…
I awakened on one of the sofas with her in my arms. I shook her awake. “Alix,” I spoke. Her eyes popped open before she sat up. “Ugh… Five more minutes, Craig,” she groaned, plopping back down. “Aight. Five more minutes, but that’s it, Missy,” I smiled. She smiled. “Thank you,” she spoke. I stood and decided to head downstairs. I poured a bowl of cereal and milk for myself and did the same for Alix. Mine were Frosted Flakes while hers were Fruit Loops. I grabbed two spoons and put one in my mouth. I carried the two bowls and the other spoon back up to the rooftop. When I got back up there, I realized that everyone was awake including Alix. I placed her bowl of cereal in front of her along with her spoon. “Thanks,” she tried not to blush. “You’re welcome,” I smiled once I took the spoon from my mouth.
“So, you didn’t make a bowl for me?” Justine asked. “Nah,” I shook my head before eating a spoonful of cereal. Everyone laughed a little bit. “Whatever. When are your butlers and maids coming?” she asked. “They have the summer off,” I smirked. She groaned. “But I don’t feel like making my own food though,” she whined. “Come on, Justine. Let’s go make breakfast for ourselves,” Jacob spoke while taking her hand into his and leading her downstairs. “Where’s Imani? She took off?” I asked Rayan. “Yeah,” he solemnly answered. “When are you going to tell her how you feel, Man?” I asked. “I don’t know. I’m searching for the right time,” he sighed. “What’s up with you and Zendaya though?” I turned to Chresanto. “We’re chillin’, Man… She’s just mad at how tight her parents have been on her lately. I told her I wanted to meet ‘em last week, but she automatically rejected my idea. I just… I don’t know, Man,” he shook his head. Damn… “Well, things’ll get better. I’m sure of it,” I assured him with a smile. He smiled back, glimpsing at Alix. “So, what’s up with you and Alix?” he asked. My eyes widened as I dropped my spoon causing it to plop back into the small pool of milk and edible flakes. This Nigga… did not… just ask… that question… and she’s SITTING RIGHT HERE! I looked at Alix out the corner of my eye. “Uhhh…” I started to speak, still looking at her out the corner of my eye. Alix blushed with a small smile playing across her lips. “Uhhh…” I repeated, not knowing what to say. “We’re chillin’…” Alix simply answered before picking up her empty bowl and heading downstairs. I looked back at Rayan and Chresanto who had sly smirks plastered on their faces. “What?” I asked.
