Alix and Rayan.
Alix.
Rayan and I arrived to school, the halls silenced as we walked. I put my hood onto my head as everyone’s eyes stared at me as I made my way to my locker. My jaw dropped when I noticed all of these beautiful flowers with notes attached. “Do you want me to wait on you and walk you to class?” Rayan whispered. “No, I’ll be fine,” I sighed. I put in the combination of my locker before opening it, several notes falling onto the floor. I knelt down to pick them up, my hand connecting with another’s just before I stood. I glanced up to see a guy who had stitches on his brow and a few healing bruises.
“Hi… I’m Trevor. And, I just want to say I’m sorry for your loss and sorry for insulting you every chance I got… Here,” he handed me a single red rose with a little tag-like note. I hesitantly took the rose between my fingertips. “As you can see, your boyfriend really did a number on my face,” he smiled slightly at me as I looked down. The bell rang, the hall clearing immediately. He continued standing in my presence as I got my books and put the rose in my locker. “So… I was wondering--.” “Look, I don’t need your sympathy, okay? Just fuck off!” I shouted at him. He stared at me, seeming a bit surprised by me. “W-Wait a minute,” he spoke, gripping the sleeve of my hoodie. “Fuck off!” I growled, slamming my locker closed and storming down the hall and into my class.
Third period eventually rolled around. I took the pass out of the class and walked into the hall, seeing Rayan, leaning against the lockers. He looked over at me as I went into my locker. I took all the notes and the flowers in place of my books. “What did that nigga say to you?” Rayan asked, his voice booming from behind me. “What nigga? What are you talking about?” I asked before closing my locker. “That nigga with a rose,” he answered. “He said he was sorry for my loss. That’s it,” I spoke as we began walking down the hall. “What else did he say?” he asked. “None of your damn business, Rayan… You’re not my boyfriend,” I muttered as we walked outside and toward my car. I heard him sigh before I ordered him to get my car keys. He took the keys from my hoodie pocket before unlocking the car and opening the passenger side door for me. I got on all fours, placing the flowers and whatnot on the backseat. “Damn, Alix. You makin’ a nigga hard,” Rayan spoke jokingly. I bursted out in laughter before sitting down correctly in my seat. He closed the door before getting in on the driver’s side.
We drove to In-N-Out Burger before Rayan drove us to a cliff, where we sat on the hood of the car and ate while talking… I was laughing at a joke he told me before looking out at the horizon. We see the main parts of the area, and everything looked absolutely gorgeous. “It’s pretty out here,” I spoke as a light breeze passed. “Yeah…” he nodded. I could feel his eyes on me. I looked at him, our eyes locking. “Alix?” he spoke. “Yeah, Ray?” I questioned. “I don’t have to be your boyfriend to care,” he spoke, referring to me saying that he wasn’t my boyfriend earlier. I stared into his eyes for a bit longer before he looked down and took another bite out of his burger, looking out at the horizon. I watched his jaw clench and unclench before he took a sip of his drink. I kissed his cheek before facing forward again, my hands in my lap. “What was that for?” he asked. “For caring,” I answered, looking down at my hands. He touched my chin, turning my gaze towards him. He leaned in for a kiss…
I moved my head back slightly, rejecting the kiss. Rayan’s eyes opened and he faced forward. “I’m sorry,” he mumbled. “No, I-I’m sorry,” I spoke, my stomach dropping slightly at how bad I felt for leading him on. We finished eating before we hopped back into the car. “Where are we going now?” I asked. “Somewhere special,” he answered, changing the gears of the car. I eventually dozed off, my head resting against the window… “Alix… We’re here,” Rayan spoke, pinching my side. I jumped out of my sleep, slapping his hand. He gave me an innocent smile as I sat up. “Where are we?” I asked. “The cemetery,” he answered. “Rayan, you didn’t!” I glared at him. “Oh, but I did, Alix. Here, take these and place them on the grave… Talk to him,” he spoke, giving me a bouquet of flowers. “Talk to him?! Craig is dead, Rayan!” I exclaimed. “So?” he gave me a slight attitude. I sighed and snatched the flowers from him. We got out of the car, and I followed Rayan to Craig’s grave.
