Chapter 46

Alix.

"I don't know, Alix... I just don't know," Jacob spoke, talking about college. "I know it's scary to think about being on your own, but... think about it... You're out here in Cali on your own," I told him. "Yeah.. Yeah, I never thought of it that way," he smiled up at me. Jacob was sitting on the floor while I sat on the bed, running my fingers through his afro. "We'll be fine in college," I assured him. "We?" he looked up at me. "Yeah. We," I nodded. He stared at me for a moment before chuckling and shaking his head. "Sorry for staring and all of that... I just haven't heard that word in a while," he spoke. "You haven't heard "we"?" I inquired. "Nah," he shook his head. "Wow... That's all I've been hearing since Craig died... Rayan was in all in my face with this "we" stuff. I eventually grew to hate the word, actually," a laugh slipped from my lips. "Do you still hate it?" he inquired. "Only when it's forced... If there's no we, and you still try to put that label on us, I'll end up hating you. I mean, I don't hate Rayan, but he can get annoying sometimes," I spoke. "Do I annoy you?" he asked. "Nah... You're alright," I assured him. He smiled at me before standing up. "Alix... You know prom is coming up, right?" he spoke, facing me. "Right," I nodded. "Would you mind being my date?" he inquired. I smiled slightly. "I'd love to be your date, Jacob," I touched his cheek. He smiled. "Thanks, Alix. This means a lot to me," he spoke quietly. "No problem, Jake," I tousled his afro. He blushed slightly while looking down. I can't help but feel as though Jacob has a little crush on me. And, I also can't help but find little things around the house such as single roses and little sticky notes that have drawn hearts on them...

"Jacob?" I spoke. He looked up at me. "Can I ask you something?" I inquired. He nodded. "Do you like me?" I asked. "Y-yeah. You're a good friend and--." "Not the friendly way, Jacob. Do you like me, like me?" I asked. He mumbled while looking down. "What was that?" I asked, touching his cheek so he could look into my eyes. "I like you a lot actually, Alix," he spoke up. "Why me?" I asked. "You make me feel comfortable, and you make me happy," he answered. "Wow," I thought while looking down. "You're a beautiful person, Alix," he looked into my eyes. "You're beautiful," he repeated while caressing my cheek. I felt myself begin to tremble and my eyes begin to water. He looked into my eyes, his face coming closer toward mine. "No. Get off of me. Get out of my room," I pushed him away from me. "Alix, wai--." "No, get out," I stood and began to push him out of my room. "Wait a min--." "Get out!" I yelled before slamming the door in his face. My back pressed against the door as I slid my way down to the floor. I hugged my knees and began to cry...

I haven't been sincerely and geniunely told that since Craig passed. Craig would touch me and look deeply into my eyes when he called me beautiful, and I knew he meant it each time he said it... Jacob did just what Craig used to... I didn't know how to handle that exact same feeling that I used to get with Craig... "Alix," Jacob knocked on the door. "Come on. Open up," he spoke. "No!" I called while wiping my tears. "Please, Alix... Please," he pleaded. After several silent moments, I got up and answered the door. There he stood... "I'm sorry for almost doing that. I don't know what I was think--." I kissed him... I kissed him and pulled him into my room, where he sat him my bed. He looked into my eyes as I approached him. "I'm sorry for doing that," I apologized. "You're sorry for what? Kicking me out of your room or kissing me?" he asked. "Both, I guess. I don't know," I half-shrugged. "Why'd your eyes get so teary? You've never been called beautiful?" he asked. "Not like Craig did it," I replied. "So, I do it how Craig used to?" he inquired. I nodded. "What did he used to do?" he asked. "He used to caress my cheek and look into my eyes. He always spoke gently and geniunely," I spoke while looking down. His warm hand began touching my cheek as he fought for my eye contact. I eventually looked into his eyes, my insides feeling fuzzy. "What else did he do?" he spoke softly, making my heart skip a beat. The doorbell rang.
