Chapter 45

Jacob.

It was Feburary before Justine and I even spoke again. When we saw each other, the looks we would gave were either glares or blank stares. I wanted to talk more so we could resolve our problems, but it seemed as though she wanted nothing to do with me. One morning, around 5 o'clock, I sat up in bed.. School starts in a couple of hours, but I want to go ahead and get dressed. I might be able to catch Justine on her way out so we can talk..

I dressed myself after taking a shower. I grabbed my backpack and jogged down the stairs. That's when I realized that Justine wasn't up yet. Because if she was, she would've been down here. And, if she left already, I would've known due to her bedroom door being cracked. I grabbed some breakfast-- a quick granola bar-- before going back up the stairs.

I knocked on Justine's door. Several moments later, she opened the door slightly but just enough to where I could see her face. "Hey, J." I smiled slightly. "Hey, Jacob," she sighed. "Do you have a minute to talk?"" I inquired. "I'm talking right now, Jacob," she replied. I laughed nervously. "Yeah, uh... I was wondering--." "Aight. I'm about to go," Daniel spoke, opening the door wider. He kissed Justine's forehead before looking at me. "What's up?" he greeted while walking past me. I then looked at what she had on. She had on a silk robe, indicating that she was probably bare underneath...

My heart sunk as I stepped back. "Is something wrong?" she inquired. "Of course," I replied. "Well, if you have something to say, you might as well say it," she responded. I stared at her for a moment. "So... you just brought him in here and fucked him?" I inquired, my eyebrows furrowing. "What's the problem with that? He's my boyfriend, remember?" she replied. "I don't give a damn, Justine... Regardless of whether he's your boyfriend or not. And regardless of whether I'm your ex or not, it's rude to fuck when a guest in your house," I lectured her. "It's only rude if the person is awakened, and as far as I know, you slept like a baby," she replied. I glared at her. "Whatever," I scoffed before beginning to walk away. "By the way," she spoke, making me stop in my tracks. I faced her to see a smirk on her face. "Daniel and I didn't fuck... I have this on because I was about to get in the shower," she spoke... With that, she went back into her room and closed the door behind her.

After making an ass out of myself, I made my way to school, where it has been boring ever since Craig's death... At lunch, we-- Rayan, Chresanto, Zendaya, and I-- sat and talked about whatever was relevant.. Justine and I were the relevant conversational topic. "So, you guys aren't on speaking terms?" Chresanto inquired. "Correct," I nodded. "I couldn't live my life like that... I can't even handle not speaking to Imani for an hour... I mean, not speaking to the one you love? That's crazy!" Chresanto spoke while taking the crust off of the bread of the sandwich he brought from home. Zendaya glimpsed at Rayan before looking down. "Yeah, crazy," she spoke softly, agreeing with Chres...

"You still love her, right?" Chresanto asked before taking a bite out of his sandwich. I looked across the cafeteria to see her sitting next to Daniel, at a table filled with Daniel's friends. "I don't know," I finally answered, watching her laugh... "You don't know?" Chresanto questioned, breaking my gaze at Justine. "She's just been giving me a hard time lately," I responded. "Then leave, if it's such a problem," he retorted. "I don't have anywhere to go," I spoke... "I got an extra room... but, I'm always with Alix... Alix has plenty of rooms. Besides, I don't think she likes me, sometimes, so the company from someone else would be good for her," Rayan smiled slightly. "Really?" I asked. "Yeah," he nodded. I smiled at the offer...

"Where is Alix anyway?" Chres asked. "She's at the vending machine, in the hall. She's been out there for a while," Rayan spoke, seeming worried. "I'll go check on h--." "Let me do it. I need to ask her if I can stay over anyway," I volunteered before getting up and walking into the hall. "Come on, you son of a bitch," I heard her voice. I looked all the way down the hall to see a petite body standing in front of the large vending machine with a hood on her head. "Come on!" she whined before kicking the machine. The snack fell with that one kick before she grabbed it. She opened the bag and began eating what was in the bag while walking back down the hall, towards me. "Hey, Alix," I greeted. "Hi," she spoke more as if it were a question. "I was just wondering if I could, uh, stay over your house for the rest of the semester... I mean, you could use the company, right?" my palms began sweating at the thought of rejection. She sighed a shaky breath while looking down...

"I know you were on really, really good terms with Craig and all, but I don't know you like that to let you stay in my house," she spoke before taking another chip in between her lips. "Oh.. Okay. I'm sorry for asking you then," I looked down before walking back toward the cafeteria. Chresanto looked at me as I sat back down. "What'd she say?" he inquired. "She said no," I sighed. "That sucks," he spoke sympathetically. "Yeah," I nodded. "Well, you can always stay at my place," he smiled. "Thanks, Chres, but... I think I'll just be stuck at Justine's house for a while," I replied. "Oh, okay. Well, the door's always open," he spoke. Honestly, I didn't want to stay at Chresanto's because I didn't think he would want my company. Besides, he'd be gone most of the time with Imani... If I'm just going to be alone, I might as well stay at Justine's house... I sighed..

I know that Rayan said that Alix could use the extra company but... it seems like I need extra company more than Alix does... Speaking of Rayan...

"Where'd Z. and Ray go?" I asked Chresanto. "I don't know. Zendaya said that she needed to speak to him privately, so they jetted and told me that they'd be right back," he answered, finishing off his sandwich and washing it down with Arizona tea.

Rayan.

"What did you want to talk about?" I inquired, leaning against a locker as she stood in front of me. She had folded her arms as if she were cold while looking down. "I wanted to talk about... us," she replied. "What about us?" I asked, my hands tucking themselves in my front pockets. "I still have feelings for you, Rayan," she finally looked up at me. My eyebrows shot up. I was a bit surprised. She had just thrown me a curve-ball.. "What kind of feelings?" I inquired. "You know what kind, Rayan..." she answered. I looked down.. "Do you still have feelings for me?" she asked. "Of course I do, but... your parents and--." "My parents aren't in our relationship, Rayan. I don't care anymore," she spoke. "You didn't care the last time we got together, and you took advantage of me because of it... Because you weren't with your parents and under the strain they were putting over you, you did everything with me that you knew your parents wouldn't condone," I responded.

She looked hurt. "You really think that?" she asked. "I wouldn't have said it, if I didn't believe it," I replied. "Rayan... I love you. I loved you then, and I love you now. Just because we haven't spoken to each other in a while doesn't mean that my feelings have changed!" her voice began to raise. "I love you too, Z. But, you fucking hurt me! I put my heart in your hands, and you fucking dropped it," I told her. "I apologized for all of that, Ray. You forgave me for all of that... Why are you still holding that against me? You don't see me screaming at you about how you kicked me out!" she yelled. "You're screaming now, Z... Look, I was hurt, aight? You fucked another nigga and lied to my face about it. How do you think I felt?" I spoke... She tucked her lips inward as her eyes became glassy. She looked down.

I sighed. "Zend--." "No... I'm fine," she smiled slightly. It was a fake smile. "I'm sorry that I wasted your time," she mumbled. My heart sunk. "You're probably too busy with Alix anyway," she spoke before beginning to walk away. I grabbed her hand and forced her to look at me. I looked into her eyes for a split second before placing my lips onto hers. She began to pull away from me as I held her close, but I didn't want to let her go... Because I was being stubborn and wasn't letting her go, she eventually gave into the kiss. Her hands rested on each side of my face before she slowly pulled her lips out of the kiss. We looked into each other's eyes lovingly, giving each other shy smiles. "I love you," she softly spoke. "I love you too," I replied. We eventually pulled away from each other just as the bell rang, dismissing students from their classes.

She slowly walked away, glancing back at me before disappearing in the abyss of students. I smiled to myself as her voice repeated in my mind.

"I love you...."
