Chapter 36
Craig.
“Yo!” I yelled as I began to fall. I gripped onto the ledge as everyone leaned against it and looked down at me. My vision was hazy and I almost couldn’t tell how many people were looking at me. “Don’t just sit there, Motherfuckers! Help me!” I shouted, fear being the only thing sobering me up. “Take my hand!” Chresanto spoke, holding his hand out for me. I tried to reach, but just couldn’t. I began to become so frightened that I started shaking and my hands became sweaty. “I can’t hold on any longer!” I exclaimed.
I looked down at the ground below me, seeing how long the distance from the here to there would be. I was surely going to die if I let go… I can’t let go. I have too much to live for, and too many things left to be done. I thought about Alix and my father and my half siblings… I don’t want to leave them behind. I don’t want to see them cry over my dead body… But, then I thought about my mother. She’s up in heaven waiting for me… I felt my eyes tearing up again…
Turns out that… her flight back home wasn’t delayed or cancelled… It ended up crashing. This was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Well, in my case, it broke my back. I was beyond stressed lately due to the company’s demanding, Rayan trying to take my girl away from me… I don’t know if I can handle all of this pressure and stress. It’s all becoming too much. What if I just let go?
Before I could even think more about the topic of suicide, Alix’s speaking broke me from my trance.
“I got you, Craig. Everything’s going to be okay,” she assured me before looking behind herself. “Hey, support me while I leaned over!” she ordered someone. “Alix, you can’t lean over. You’ll fall!” Chresanto screamed at her. “I’m not about to lose the person I love tonight, Chresanto! Alright?!” she yelled back before leaning down slightly. Her body against the concrete building, she reached her hand out for me. “Come on,” she spoke as I grabbed her hand. “Pull us up!” she screamed over her shoulder as my other hand slipped from the ledge. I yelled in fear. “Pull us up, you stupid fuck!”
“Yo, pull us up, Rayan!” Alix screamed, gripping onto my hand with both hands. “I’m not gonna make it, Alix,” I looked up at her. “Don’t talk like that! I’m not letting you go!” she screamed, tears streaming down her face. “I love you,” I spoke sincerely, feeling a single tear escape my eye. “I love you too,” she spoke as we began to move upward. My hand couldn’t hold on any longer. My palms were sweaty, but I had to hold on for a few more moments. Just until my feet touched solid ground… But, I couldn’t hold on anymore. “I’m sorry, Alix. I love you,” I told her. “Craig, what are y--.” Her words stopped and her jaw dropped as I flew through the air. “Craig! CRAIG!” she screamed as she grew smaller and smaller and became a silhouette.
All I could think about were how the sales on one of the branches of the company had fallen sixty stories recently… That branch fell as quick as I did. Here I lie… On the concrete, on the side of my friend’s home. I could feel my bones crack and break… It was a lot of cracking… I felt my neck snap as warm blood gushed out of the back of my head…
“No! No, no, no!” Alix’s voice cried from a distance as a crowd formed outside. I could hear her running toward me barefoot, assuming that she took off her stilettos. But, it’s a shame that her face wasn’t the last thing I saw… Everything went black before she even reached me. The last thing I witnessed were the sparkling stars in the dark sky. They twinkled as bright as Alix’s smile. I wish I had seen that once more before I died…
“Please! Please!” Alix kneeled and cradled me, tears running down her face. “Somebody call the ambulance!” she screamed. She rocked back and forth as my blood began to cover her outfit and stain her hands. “I’m here, I’m here,” she caressed my pale cheek as I lied limp in her arms. “Alix… I think he’s gone,” Chresanto softly spoke, his voice cracking a bit. “I don’t know why ya’ll are just standing there! Some one call the police! Somebody, please!” she cried, ignoring Chresanto and resting her head on my bloody shoulder. “They’re on their way,” someone eventually spoke.
Alix sobbed as a paramedic announced me to be deceased. Rayan pulled her away from me, which she was stubborn to do. She broke away from Rayan multiple times and struggled to get from in his arms as the paramedics put me in a black body bag and zipped it up.
“Nooooo! Please!” she screeched as Rayan held her as tight as he could in his arms. He struggled to contain her, but she was more than a force to be reckoned with. She broke away from him and jogged after the ambulance… After she had traveled a few feet, she stopped and dropped to her knees. “Craig! You left me! We were so close and you fucking left me! You let me go! You… You let me go!” she shouted while punching and beating at the concrete in anger and frustration. “I love you and you left me! WHY DID YOU LET GO?!?!” she screeched as Chresanto, Rayan, and Zendaya sat beside her on the concrete and brought each other in for a group hug. They all hugged Alix as tight as they could as she shed tears silently…
The last thing I wanted to do was leave Alix… But, what’s done has been done. And there’s no going back…
But, overall… I have to say… My silver spoon has fed me good, and I died on a full stomach.
