Chapter 5
Justine.
We laid in bed, talking for hours upon hours. “You’re my heart,” he spoke in Spanish while running his finger against my bottom lip. “You’re my soul,” I blushed as he continued tracing my facial features. “Last night was the best night of my life,” he smiled. “Same here,” I bit my lip. He pecked my lips with his and continued cradling me in his arms.
“What’s the first thing you’re going to do in the South?” I asked. “I don’t know… Wallow in my loneliness,” he answered causing a smile to play onto my lips. “Seriously, Jacob,” I playfully hit him. “I don’t know… Go for a swim. Hang with my cousins,” he answered. I smiled, locking my fingers behind his neck. “You gonna miss me?” I asked. “Si, mi amor,” he smiled. “I’m going to miss you so much,” I hugged him tightly as he kissed my forehead.
“What are you going to do while I’m gone?” he asked, gazing into my eyes with a slight smirk. “Just for you… I’ll go into rehab,” I smiled weakly. “Really?” he spoke, astonished at the thought. I nodded with a small smile. “I’ve always dreamt about this, Justine. You better not be lying to me,” he looked at me in all seriousness. “I’m serious, Curly,” I somewhat hesitated to say. “Justine, you don’t know how happy you’ve just made me,” he hugged me and held me as if I were to fade away at any moment.
“I love you, Justine,” he pecked my lips and looked into my eyes dreamily. “I love you too,” I smiled slightly. Just as our lips began to gravitate toward each other again, Jacob’s phone rang. He sat up, removing himself from our comfortable position. He answered the call, licking his lips at me. “Hello?” he spoke into the phone. His demeanor suddenly changed.
“I’m over my f---. What?! Mamá, please. I beg of you. Nononono. Now? But Mamá… fine, I’m coming,” he sighed before hanging up. “We’re leaving… now,” he muttered, getting dressed. I got dressed also, trying not to go so slow since my heart was breaking. Jacob sighed while putting on his shoes. I held back tears, putting on a sweater. Once we were dressed, he took my hand into his as we walked down the spiral staircase.
Once outside, I witnessed his mother leaning against a car along with his father. “Diga adiós, hijo,” his mother spoke. “Say Goodbye, Son.” That snapped my heart in half, and with each step, Jacob’s grip on my hand became tighter and tighter. Tears were swelling in my eyelids as Jacob spoke. “Mamá, por favor ... Te lo ruego. Usted---.” “Listen to your mama,” his father interrupted him. Jacob sighed a shaky breath before turning towards me. “Justine---.” “Just go… You don’t need me. I’ll try to get better. I promise,” I spoke, looking into his eyes with tears rolling down my cheeks. He stared into my eyes. “You promise?” he asked. “I promise,” I reassured him.
He took my face into both of his hands and kissed me delicately. We looked into each other’s eyes before hugging each other for the last time. “I love you,” he whispered. “I love you too,” I smiled slightly, wiping my tears. “Vamos, Hijo,” his mother spoke. I tried pulling away, but he wouldn’t let me go. I laughed a little bit. “Jacob, I’ll be fine. I promise,” I ran my fingers through his afro. “Promise me you’ll stop using that shit that’ll have you dead,” he whispered. “I promise,” I nodded. “No estoy bromeando contigo, Justine,” he spoke in a serious tone while holding me tighter. “I’m not kidding with you, Justine.” “I not kidding either,” I shot at him. “Si usted muere en mí---.” “Yeah, yeah, yeah. Go before you miss your flight,” I interrupted his Spanish rambling. He held me for a few more seconds before letting me go. “I’ll call you when we land,” he spoke out loud while getting in the car. “Okay, Jacob. Bye! I love you!” I called after him once the car started. He blew a kiss from the window just as they pulled off.
Craig.
She pushed me back and slapped me hard. The look of regret covered her face as she covered her mouth. That shit hurt bad as fuck, but I refuse to let her see me wince in pain. I clenched my jaw, staring into her eyes. Even though, that shit hurt, it turned me on a bit too… I wasn’t going to let that show either. I concealed my emotions and stared at her blankly. “Craig… Craig, I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to,” she spoke, a little frightened by her own actions.
In actuality, I wanted to pull her to me and fuck the life out of her right there in the living room… But… she’s not just a random hoe. She’s Alix. My friend… My BEST friend, and I’ve never felt this way about her until now. I haven’t been in love with her until… I don’t know… maybe the other day.
“Craig… Speak to me, please,” she spoke, placing her hand on my jawline. I jerked away from her before going into the kitchen. She followed me, looking down as if she were a little girl in trouble. “You wanted to leave. I’m not stopping you,” I told her grabbing a cup. “I know… I don’t want to leave,” she spoke quietly. “Why not?” I asked getting a drink and pouring it into my cup. “Because… I like your company. You know I like your company,” she spoke, looking into my eyes. “What makes you so confident on the fact that I like yours?” I asked. “You haven’t kick me out yet,” she answered.
I rolled my eyes. “Do you want me to kick you out?” I asked. “No,” she answered quickly. I stared into her eyes from across the kitchen…
I grabbed my cup and started to leave the kitchen. I stopped when I was about to pass Alix. “Don’t fucking put your hands on me any longer… Not unless I tell you to,” I winked at her before going up to the rooftop.
Rayan.
I awakened refreshed. My heart’s still broken, but… I’m getting better, I guess. I lazily walked downstairs and into the kitchen where my mother was. “How’d you sleep, Baby?” she asked glancing up from the breakfast she had concocted. “Horrible,” I answered with a smile to let her know I was kidding. A laugh slipped from her lips as she made me a plate of the food she made. “Thank you, Mama,” I kissed her cheek and took the plate. We sat down at the table and began to eat.
“So… How’d it go last night?” she inquired. I sighed. “I showed up with roses, and when we started to talk, we were interrupted. She had to handle something, and she left in such a hurry that she left my roses on the floor. She didn’t even look back or come back for them… But, Zendaya ---you remember her, right?--- she gladly took them and she comforted me,” I spoke with a slight smile on my face. “So, what happened with you and Imani?” she asked before sipping her orange juice.
I paused trying not to remind myself on how hurt I was on the fact that Imani didn’t give a damn about me or my feelings. “I found out that she doesn’t even remotely care about me… She was just using me for…” I paused… My mother doesn’t know anything about the drunken nights my friends and I have. Therefore, I can’t mention how Imani only wanted me for alcohol. “For what?” my mother questioned, breaking me from my thoughts. “To get to Chres,” I answered with a sigh.
She frowned a bit. “Oh, Baby,” she rubbed my back. “You’ll find someone better. I promise… What about that Zendaya girl?” she asked. I slowly looked up from my plate and into my mother’s eyes. “Who?” I asked. “Zendaya,” she repeated. A smile slowly began to linger onto my face. “Of course, Zendaya!” I thought to myself. She’s the only one who dared to check on me. She’s heartbroken just like I am, meaning she’s single! And we did have fun last night. Even without alcohol or sex, we had the time of our lives….
“Yeah… Okay, Ma… I’ll ask her out later,” I nodded with a grin. “See… No need to wallow in heartbreak about one girl when you can go out with another,” Mama winked with a slight smile. I laughed a bit. “I love you, Ma,” I smiled. “I love you too, Baby Boy.”
