Rimuru POV
A gentle warmth spread through my consciousness, like sunlight filtering through spring leaves. Soft fingers ran through my hair, accompanied by a familiar humming - a melody I hadn't heard in what felt like lifetimes. The dream-space around us shimmered with ethereal light, creating a cocoon of peace that felt both nostalgic and new.
"Good morning, Slime-san," Shizu's voice carried that same warmth I remembered, making my heart ache with recognition. She sat beside me, her presence as comforting as ever, surrounded by dancing lights that reminded me of her masked flames.
"Good morning, Shizu-san," I whispered back, drinking in her presence. Even in this
dreamscape, she wore that gentle smile that had captured my heart so long ago. Her hand never stopped its soothing motion through my hair.
"It seems like you've saved someone else once again," she said, her eyes twinkling with knowing affection. The air around us shifted with memories - of her, of Ifrit, of all the moments that led us here.
My chest swelled with emotion. "He's my younger brother. In this life, I finally have a family - one that loves me unconditionally. I'll protect them, no matter what."
Shizu's expression softened further. "I believe in you. But remember not to exhaust yourself. Your mother worries, doesn't she? Cherish these moments with your family."
The dream-space rippled with images of my new family - mom's worried face, dad's proud smile, Art's determined expression. "I do cherish them, Shizu-san. Every single moment."
"Still, I worry," she confessed, her voice carrying old regrets. "I burdened you in your second life. I want this one to be different for you."
I reached up, pressing a finger to her lips. The gesture felt both dream-like and real. "You gave me everything, Shizu-san. My identity, my form, even Ciel. Meeting you was never a burden - it was a gift."
Tears gathered in her eyes, catching the ethereal light. "Then I'm equally grateful, Slime-san. Thank you for fulfilling my selfish wishes... Rimuru Tempest."
Reality crashed back slowly, like waves on a shore. First came the pain - a deep, burning ache in my chest that spoke of emptied mana channels. Then the weight - Art sprawled across me, his breathing shallow but steady. Sunlight filtered through leaves above, creating dancing patterns on his pale face.
<<Master, please remain still. Your mana pathways are severely strained.>> Ciel's voice carried unusual concern.
I tried to shift, but even that small movement sent sparks of pain through my body. Art mumbled something in his sleep, his small hands clutching my shirt tightly. The pain in my chest was from overusing my mana, a mistake I shouldn't have made. I should have been more cautious about my limits.
<<Master, detecting approaching mental communication. Unknown entity requests contact.>>
<Security assessment?>
<<No hostile intent detected. Shall I permit connection?>>
"Accepted," I managed, curiosity overriding caution.
The woman's voice that filled my mind carried both amusement and interest. "Oh, you're awake. How does your body feel?"
Pain flared as I tried to take a deeper breath. "It could be better."
"Heh, you're an interesting kid. I saved both you and your brother, you know," the woman's voice held a playful tone that somehow made me both curious and cautious.
