Arthur Leywin POV
"Sylvie! Where were you? How dare you leave me in hell alone!!" Ellie screamed dramatically as she flung herself into Sylvie's arms, her grayish brown curls bouncing with each exaggerated movement. She buried her face in Sylvie's chest, her voice muffled as she continued to scold her.
Sylvie couldn't help but be amused by Ellie's theatrics, her laughter bubbling up as she gently wrapped her arms around Ellie. She felt a pang of guilt for worrying her friend. "Oh, Ellie, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to worry you. Uncle just took me out for a quick breakfast. Did you miss me that much?" Sylvie's tone was gentle, trying to soothe Ellie's apparent distress.
Ellie pouted, her expression a mix of annoyance and relief. "Of course, I missed you! But next time, at least let me know before disappearing like that. I was worried sick!"
Sylvie couldn't help but giggle at Ellie's over-the-top reaction. She wrapped her arms around Ellie in a tight hug, offering a sincere apology, "I'm sorry, Ellie! I promise I'll let you know next time before sneaking off like that. But don't worry, Uncle was with me the whole time."
Ellie's expression softened at Sylvie's reassurance, though she still maintained a hint of mock annoyance. "Fine, fine. Just promise you won't disappear like that again, okay?" Then, turning to me with a mischievous glint in her eye, she added, "And big brother, how could you take Sylvie and leave me to suffer alone in this dreadful place?"
I chuckled at Ellie's playful scolding. "Well, Ellie, a little suffering never hurt anyone, right? Builds character and all that."
Ellie gasped dramatically, her hand flying to her mouth in mock offense. "You heartless brother! How could you be so cruel to your dear little sister? Don't you have any mercy leaving your little sister in hell alone?!?!"
"Honestly....no," I said with a smile, playing along with her dramatics.
Ellie gasped again and hugged Sylvie tighter, her actions exaggerated but her affection genuine. "Sylvie! Protect me from this heartless brother of mine!" She buried her face in Sylvie's chest, pretending to sob dramatically.
Sylvie continued to pat Ellie's head soothingly, playing along with her playful antics. "There, there, Ellie. Don't worry, I've got your back."
I couldn't help but laugh at Ellie's theatrical performance. "Come on, Ellie. It wasn't that bad, was it?"
Ellie peeked out from Sylvie's embrace, her eyes narrowed but a smile tugging at her lips. "You have no idea, big brother. The director made me recite the entire history of the continent. My brain feels like mush!" Despite her complaints, there was a hint of pride in her voice at having accomplished such a feat.
"Well, that does sound pretty intense," I admitted, feeling a twinge of sympathy for my sister. "But hey, at least you're learning a lot, right?" I tried to find the silver lining, impressed by her dedication.
Ellie groaned dramatically, but I could see the spark of interest in her eyes. "Learning? More like drowning in information!" She was exhausted, but part of her was excited by all she was learning.
Sylvie giggled, still patting Ellie's head. "Don't worry, Ellie. I'm sure you did great. You're super smart!" Her words were filled with genuine admiration for her friend.
Just then, the director walked in, her presence commanding attention as she greeted us with a warm smile. Her elegant robes swished softly as she moved. "Ah, Arthur, good to see you here," she said, her voice carrying a mix of authority and warmth.
"I came to return Sylvie and check on Ellie's progress," I explained, returning her smile. I felt a twinge of curiosity about what she might say about my sister's training.
