The honey cakes turned out perfectly golden, their surfaces glistening with the silky glaze we'd prepared. The rich aroma of vanilla and honey filled every corner of the kitchen, mingling with the scent of freshly baked tea cookies arranged neatly on a silver platter. Even Sylvia, who had finally finished setting the table, couldn't help but hover near the kitchen entrance, drawn by the enticing smell.

I carefully adjusted one of the cakes on its stand, ensuring the presentation was perfect. These weren't just desserts; they were a gesture of love for a mother missing her sons. Every detail mattered.

"They look beautiful," Ellie breathed, staring at our creations with pride. "Do you think Mother will like them?"

"She'll love them," I assured her, smoothing my apron. "Especially since you helped make them."

The kitchen itself was a testament to our work. Julia moved efficiently between tasks, putting the finishing touches on the dinner spread – a hearty roast with seasonal vegetables, mushroom soup, and fresh bread. The maid had showing Ellie some basic water manipulation while preparing vegetables, which had brought genuine joy to the young girl's face for the first time in days.

"The table is ready!" Sylvia announced proudly from the doorway, though I noticed her eyes still fixed longingly on the honey cakes.

"Everything smells amazing," Lily added, helping me transfer the desserts to the serving cart. Her movements were precise and careful, betraying her own anxiety about the evening. "Though I think we might have made enough food for twenty people instead of eight."

"Better too much than too little," I replied, straightening my apron. "Besides, leftovers are always welcome." Especially when cooking helped keep our minds off darker thoughts.

"My ladies," Julia interrupted politely, "I hear carriages approaching. I believe Lady Alice and Lady Tabitha have returned."

Ellie's eyes lit up instantly. "Quick! Everyone get ready!"

We hurried to remove our aprons and smooth our dresses. Julia efficiently whisked away any evidence of our cooking adventure while Sylvia lit the candles she'd arranged on the table (under Julia's watchful eye, of course). The warm light cast a gentle glow across the dining room, making everything look softer, more welcoming.

I turned to Ellie, who was practically bouncing with anticipation. "Remember, this evening is about making your mother smile. Let's show her how much we all care about her."

Ellie nodded determinedly, then threw her arms around my waist in a spontaneous hug. "Thank you, Sister Ciel. And you too, Sister Sylvia and Sister Lily. This means so much to me."

The simple sincerity of her words touched my heart, and I could see similar emotions reflected in Sylvia and Lily's faces.

The sound of the front door opening echoed through the house, followed by voices in the entrance hall. Ellie rushed to greet her mother, leaving us to share knowing smiles. Tonight wouldn't erase the pain of missing Arthur and Rimuru, but it would remind Alice that she wasn't alone.

"Something smells wonderful," Alice's voice drifted in, followed by the sound of approaching footsteps.

When Alice appeared in the doorway with Tabitha beside her, both women stopped short at the scene before them. Vincent and Reynolds followed close behind, their eyes widening at the elaborate spread laid out on the dining table.

"What's all this?" Alice asked softly, her gaze moving from the beautifully set table to the fresh-baked treats.

"We made it for you, Mother!" Ellie rushed forward to embrace her. "We all helped - well, except Sylvia. She wasn't allowed in the kitchen."
